Has Mohan definitely left, if so I'd assume that's injury related? It's a big loss either way.

Very disappointing result on Sunday. Terrible to see Bobby McCaul getting injured, fingers crossed it's not as serious as it appeared. He looked like he was on course for a massive game. I was sitting directly in line with his disallowed point and it was clearly over the bar. For a game of this magnitude that is a very bad decision.

The start against Mayo was poor. I thought Monaghan looked tired and disorganised. A bit more cynicism might have
prevented one of the 2 pointers just before half time. Mayo weren't slow to try and drag down when there was just seconds left.

Roscommon are better than Mayo, so a start like that again and there will be no comebacks.

McCarville and Gallagher are being asked to do a lot around midfield. Too much really. Other teams seem to have 3 or more midfielders on the pitch and it makes it difficult to cover. You could see Monaghan got confused by the Mayo kickout strategy at various points in the first half. Monaghan need another big man around midfield. When Beggan drifted out he was able to catch a great ball. That extra man makes a difference. I know the options are limited but surely Hanratty could start, even just to spoil or break the ball.

I thought Aron Carey did well while he was on, got a nice point and got on the ball. I'd assumed that he'd been replaced as he'd injured his ankle before halftime or was it tactical? He's another player that adds a bit of physicality to the team.

We'll find out over the next few days about the injury situation but whatever, performing for half the game is not going to cut it at this stage. Roscommon will be well set up and will have a plan for everything Monaghan can throw at them. Monaghan need the same, from the start. Whoever wins will feel they have a great chance of going a good bit further.

Maybe they all have not got the commitment at the moment or have not the patience to sit on the bench and wait their turn.

I am not saying they aren't good footballers cause they all definitely are good but the county game takes a different breed of person to put in the work/sacrifices.

Some it feels like they have a bad game and are like na not fighting for my place again. they definitely got a chance. sean jones, loughran walked after a bad game, same with wilson irwin etc. you do wonder is it attitude or management. heard of a similar situation at kilmacud.

see what happens, couple that with excessive injuries raises concerns about management. don't get me wrong, bannigan and con are doing a great job.

McNulty...travelling.
Loughran... not good enough, missed his best years.
Wilson...not good enough.
Irwin...not good enough.
Mohan...injured.
McPhillips...had surgery, not very interested either.
Jones..not committed or interested.
Mulligan...not interested.
Lennon...not interested.
Leonard...injuries and travelling.
Also it takes a different animal to be a County footballer rather than being a good club player.
At least 4 of those lads were not interested in putting their social lives and girlfriends on hold. They are all lads with jobs or studies and it is quite understandable that the sacrifices of county football is not for everyone. It's not like they are walking away from a money making career.

Its funny. The mainstream sports media who just patronise monaghan with the usual punch above our weight comments continually go on about how the county maxs out every year and gets everything out of itself when the truth is v different. Some of the most talented players in the county mulligan jones by all accounts lack the temperment and dedication for inter county football . Think bannigan places great store on that and hes right. Garland is a great example been in or around the panel since 2018 only becoming a regular last few years but a great attitude to the cause. Think we are jinked as well when it comes to big men. Niall Kearns retired early. Gary Mohan only properly fit for two years cant get fit last few years. Conor Leonard over before started with injuries. Barry Mcbennett one good year then gone. Mcphilips gone travelling but doesn't appear to be rated by management never got a look in last summer so hell be in no rush back. Mccaul a real pedigree footballer cursed by career threatening injuries not even 21. Gallagher and mccarville have been the real unsung heroes this year and one of them isnt really a proper midfielder.
