Replying To Viking66:  "How can a player have a contract with an Association?
And why should clubs get money because a player chooses to go to Australia? Noone at our club is coaching children expecting a profit. And we all know there's every chance they might not stay playing for the club as adults. Many don't.
If they get a hurling or football scholarship from a college should we demand a cut off them?
How about if they get a good job in Dublin? Or London? Or Germany? Or wherever? And move to a different club where they end up working. This happened to our club several times over the years. Lads who played for the club until they were young adults transferred to clubs in Dublin and London. Some were Senior intercounty players. We ended up getting relegated to Intermediate. Should we be paid a cut of their wages? Or a signing fee from the clubs they went to?
Absolutely we shouldn't.
Never heard such nonsense."
I see your being your usual positive self.

All professional athletes have agents - this is not new - no one was suggesting club players have agents or wages so im not sure what raving you are at.

If the GPA are the players agent - they negotiate a better deal and a fee - just like any professional agent.

All im saying is that is the only way to get something back - The GPA have plenty of employees and contractors working for them. Im not sure what your getting at about them being an association

Its not about demanding a cut of the young players - its about getting a better deal for them.
At the minute they use hearsay and solicitors to help - so they arent getting the best deal they can get. Especially in the womens game

Its was funny seeing so many Australians complaining and looking for compensation for Massimo De Lutiis when media reported the Irish rugby team were going to poach him. But GAA fans aren't aloud to complain when tour players are poached

If they arent happy with whatever they are offered they dont have to go.
I wasnt raving anyway, I was just pointing out that Id be delighted if a lad I coached got to make a living out of sport, and that I wouldn't want anything for it. Or feel that I deserved to get anything for it. Any of the lads Ive coached have been coached by other lads, at county level, within our own club, at school, and even in different sports altogether which when combined make them the young sportspeople that they are.
Should all those other organisations get paid also?

Which Australians were complaining and looking for compensation for de Lutiis, the Ireland qualified professional rugby player?

A lot of aussie rules supporters wouldn't care about rugby

Now the AFL & GAA both half an arc, but they operate very differently. How will the hybrid game adopt it, if at all?
With it, should the scoring scale then be amended, to say,
Goal 8; Arc Over 4; Near Over 2; and 'Any Range' Behind 1?

I see there's going to be a Womens International, under Aussie Rules, between Australia and Ireland.

It'd be most amusing if entirely unsurprising if Ireland won that

Ya once that starts up every year it's going to really hurt the gaa. The GAA would be crazy to merge with the ladies now if the best players are leaving for Australia and likely to increase. Aussie rules will be taken more seriously if they have a Annuel international outlet.

Malachy Clerkin writing today complaining about GAA fans being disappointed with Kobe leaving the sport. Why can't GAA fans be disappointed? He is pretty much saying you can't be disappointed your wife is leaving you because she getting a better life. On one hand they want fans invested in GAA on another you can't be disappointed a generational player is leaving. Can you imagine Joe canning left hurling for rugby and Galway didn't get the all Ireland? It annoying how fans are not allowed to express disappointment

It's true. When the Australians nearly lost a young prop to Ireland for a better life the Aussies complained and didn't care. They are even going to world rugby to demand a increase in compensation fees. But when a GAA fans complain about the AFL the media tells them to stop being selfish.

He's one of the best taggers in the game... It was good to get one back on him."

Zak Butters on getting close attention from Oisin Mullin across the night.

Oisin million has brought man marking to a different level in afl. more clubs are starting to look at this role as it wasn't a popular move before mullens excelled. More Irish defenders will be watched in this years championship by afl clubs to find the next mullens type

THE HISTORIC AUSTRALIAN Football League Women's (AFLW) clash between Ireland and Australia has been confirmed for Saturday, 1 August, in Sydney.

AFL.com.au announced the news after AFLW clubs were informed of the details on Thursday, with the "blockbuster one-off encounter" to be held at the 16,000-capacity North Sydney Oval [KO 4.15pm local time, 7.15am Irish time].

The match will take place a fortnight before the start of the 2026 AFLW campaign, which is due to get underway the week starting Monday, 10 August. It will not clash with any men's AFL fixtures.

Clubs were first informed of the international back in April: It will be played as an Australian Football match with a Sherrin, rather than with a round ball under Gaelic football rules like previous Ireland v Australia men's clashes.

Tipperary's Colin O'Riordan is reportedly set to lead the Irish side. The former AFL and Gaelic football star is head coach of Sydney Swans. North Melbourne's dual premiership coach Darren Crocker is expected to manage the Australian contingent.

A record 39 Irish players featured in the 2025 AFLW season, with five - Bláithín Bogue, Jennifer Dunne, Niamh McLaughlin, Áine McDonagh and Dayna Finn - named in the prestigious All-Australian team

The simple fact is that if there was an international rules womens game - Ireland would beat Australia out the gate and all the way back to Australia. Aussies don't back a loser, hence their lack of interest in even trying.

Aussies only want to play Oz v Ireland in the rules game so they can win

The Irish team has been limited to players who have made their debut in the AFLW, ruling out the most recent wave of recruits.

It's an unsurprisingly quick team, but concerns over a lack of height are unfounded, given the presence of Aishling Moloney, Aine McDonagh and Vikki Wall (who is a little shorter, but is yet to meet a defender she couldn't bury into the turf) in attack, and three key backs in Jen Dunne, Clara Fitzpatrick and Kayleigh Cronin.

The versatility of Orlagh Lally and Rachel Kearns will help the Irish team management, there's plenty who can rotate between half-back, wing and half-forward, while Tanya Kennedy also capable of playing as a smaller lockdown defender if needed.

Two-time North Melbourne premiership coach Darren Crocker is hot favourite to lead the Aussies, with a tailor-made Irish answer in new Sydney counterpart Colin O'Riordan.

B: Jen Dunne, Kayleigh Cronin
HB: Dayna Finn, Clara Fitzpatrick, Sinead Goldrick
C: Grace Kelly, Aisling McCarthy, Niamh Kelly
HF: Orla O'Dwyer, Aine McDonagh, Sarah Rowe
F: Vikki Wall, Aishling Moloney
Foll: Eilish O'Dowd, Erone Fitzpatrick, Niamh McLaughlin (captain)
I/C: Orlagh Lally, Blaithin Bogue, Rachel Kearns, Erika O'Shea, Neasa Dooley, Tanya Kennedy, Niamh Martin
