Replying To A_Chairde:  "Have to agree on Dan Scahill. Dan was immense today, won all his 50 50 balls with Lynch who was then taken off. Conor Dillon deserves a mention. Only really back from a serious injury and he puts the shackles on Jordan Morris. Same team has to start the next day with Jason obviously in nets. Jason wasnt happy taking instructions from backroom member in first half, understandably so after been dropped. I thought the ship had sailed with the Mc Cormack experiment. Jason is the best keeper we have. Speedy recovery to Conor. Any word on Conors injury?"
Broken leg unfortunatley, big collision for that Meath goal chance, putting their bodies on the line.

what a day to be a westmeath man yesterday . this was a performance that will live long in my memory
meath saw this just as a stepping stone to a leinster title . how wrong they were . the team were outstanding . the inclusion of conor mcormack surprised me and i wish him well in his recovery . jason daly is the best goalie in the county se he was a good replacement . danny scahill was close to being man of the match . huge work rate and will to win were the features of this win . the nature of the defeat in wexford has transformed this team . all the big players wally sam ray luke and the younger ones like danny scahill mattie whittaker and shane corcoran were immense today but one man to me epitomised this win and that was conor dillon . up until the last ten minutes he snuffed out jordan morris . so now we move on to a semi final against kildare . tullamore on may 3rd . i would urge all people who take pride in our county to make the short journey to tullamore to get this very promising bunch of young lads to a leinster final

What an occasion! We absolutely should enjoy this moment but what it has given us is a real chance of getting to a Leinster final that we can actually win for the first time since 2004. Also getting into the final gets us into the sam Maguire with a favourable draw as a runner up! This Kildare game now is the biggest game we have been in for years!

Well done Westmeath on a hugely impressive win. Like a lot of people, I had earmarked Meath as likely winners of Leinster this year, but your lads fairly torpedoed that notion yesterday. Just a pity that we had to follow it on X and Scór Beo. I got the GAA+ annual subscription as a Christmas present, and there wasn't one game of football available on it yesterday, Dhia sábháil, ach sin scéal eile.

Hopefully ye can build on this now an defeat Kildare. A Leinster final is well within your grasp.
McHugh is a shrewd operator. Plenty of people here in Donegal are understandably keeping an eye on his progress. A Leinster Chanmpionship victory with Westmeath would be a big feather in his cap, so you'll have a lot of support from the North-West.

Congratulations Westmeath! What a performance yesterday. You're now nicely set up to give Leinster a good rattle

Great win. Very good shot now at a Leinster title. As good a chance as they have had in 20 years.
Based on what Kildare and Dublin have shown. There is no reason why Westmeath wouldn't fancy their chances.

Massive congratulations to Mark McHugh and his troops on a fantastic win yesterday. Fully deserved, heroes all over the pitch but it did help that we came in under the radar. Kildare will be ready but if we show the same level of hunger & intensity then there is no reason why we cannot come out on top. Superb team performance yesterday but it was really great to witness the performances of some of the newer players yesterday - Shane Corcoran, Conor Dillon, Danny scahill & Tadhg Baker in addition to Charlie, Sam, Ray, Mattie & Luke. Hopefully more supporters get behind the team the next day - this team deserves it,!

Very well done to the players and management on a brilliant performance. It was great to see this young team play with freedom and do what they can do best. Daniel Scahill was immense at the back. Showed a master class in defending, particularly in first half. Luke was superb and Corcoran is really making a name for himself up front. Best wishes to Conor McCormack who suffered a terrible injury, may he make a speedy recovery. Mark McHugh will hopefully ground the players fairly quick and get the focus on Kildare for what should be a very interesting semi final. I see both semi finals not being televised and are on GAA plus.

Firstly , congratulations to westmeath played some excelent football yesterday racking up 4- 18 and could have had another 3 goals , but also defended so well, meath only created 1 goal chance and lost their keeper in the same incedent, best of luck in your quest for leinster , i think westmeath will take kildare, and are equally as good as louth or dublin which could be a cracker, rte not showing both semifinals man o man ????

Great win yesterday, a lot of Down folk will be having sleepless nights for the next two weeks. What's the story with Ronan O' Toole, I always thought he was a class act, always reminded me of Brian Mc Guigan.

Congratulations to the Senior Footballers on a mighty win against all odds. I was actually amazed to see our odds against the most overrated team in the country. Mark McHugh and his fellow selectors had their homework done, clear emphasis on going after a Meath back line and forcing great pressure on their shooters. McHugh has done a fine job putting this group of players together overnight and striking the correct balance, he got the match ups spot on the day. He has put faith in young, skilful players like Allen, Corcoran, Cooney and Brandon Kelly and they are repaying him. It is a dramatically improved team, which is a huge compliment to their character given how the League ended in Wexford. We need to see out games better however, we lost our way in the last 10 minutes. For the first time in a long time we have a genuine chance of winning a Leinster title.

The work rate in the first 60 mins was always going to affect them. Shane Allen went off with cramp, so should be ok for the semi, his work rate was phenomenal, he gives Whittaker licence to push up and as the Sunday Game pointed out, the half backs muted any attack that Meath tried to build up, along with the huge performance of the full back line.

Any word on Lukes's injury? been watching Westmeath since the early 80s and think Luke is as good as any player I've seen in a Westmeath shirt. Hope he's ok for next day

Looks like westmeath have settled with there two corner forwards now Shane corcoran and Brandon kelly who both are flying think they have 5-8 between them in the last 2 championship games both have pace to burn and goals in them they have been swapping players in them 2 position all league campaign without finding the balance "takes alot of the pressure of luke aswell in the full forward line

Great chance to win a Leinster now, but probably need to cut the celebrations now, they really need to be on the ball for Kildare who are very beatable, westmeath really dont want to have this as a false dawn, they have been fairly solid since about 1994 getting to that league final and the win over Derry that year, i dont think they dropped into div 4 since that year. the hurling probaably weakens there support aa bit too, theres a good few in north westmeath that wont look at them if they were outside the door i often hear, that can be a killer for a county momentum. a defeat to kildare woud now seem a huge setback to go playing tailteann cup football after that win. they need to become consistent and get solid in div 2, because now theres danger of jumping between tailteann cup and all ireland every few years which is a killer for county with potential. same applies to Down and Kildare.

luke will do everything in his power to be fit . he has come through a lot in his young life and he loves his football . o connor park suits him and he should be ok to line out . this will be a huge test . the euphoria of beating meath will count for nothing if we dont beat kildare . mark mchugh and his management are acutely aware of that

wishing conor mccormack a speedy recovery first of all. injured putting his body on the line. epitomised the performance and commitment from all the players on the day. most unfortunate for him.
fair play mark mchugh and his team. they have had faith in the lads all year and i think you can see the improvement coming in them. pressure was on down in wexford and they delivered but just didnt manage it well at the end. longford and now meath performances showing their higher ceiling now than the div 3 league campaign might have doubted people they were capable of.
def coming in out of the long grass a little helped but that wont be the case with kildare. still more than capable of getting the win with another performance. best thing for me would be there are players all over the pitch delivering top quality performances. younger and older alike.
yes the coe and club championship structures need to ne got right at cb level. winning at tug of war means all have to pull on the rope at the same time. that coordination between cb and clubs seems to be lacking a bit.
that's 6 senior championship matches in a row we have beaten meath. lets give our hurlers a shout too for 4 wins in between the 2 football victories. happy happy days winning against the noisy neighbours anyway.
finally… with marys cbs hogan win and the minor and u20 wins over dublin… along with turning meath over it has been some few weeks in the history of westmeath football. we are unnacustomed to much success but all those teams are changing the script and writing their own histories. well done to them all.

This is so true in terms of making the short journey , anyone in the county who has any sort of an interest needs to be there and get behind the county, could make all the difference.
The county team has been knocking on the door over the past few years and have had so many close calls , would be great if they went one further step.
