It is vitally important that Ireland elects a Sinn Fein/ People Before Profit left wing government next time so that there is momentum to a United Ireland and 32 county Socialist Republic. Fianna Fáil has failed to live up to its "Republican Party "electoral slogan. Unity should be the number one priority of any Irish Government and that will never be the case under Fianna Fáil/ Fine Gael. REDANDBLACK30 (Down) - Posts: 1734 - 02/04/2026 17:56:20 2664466 Link 1 |

I don't agree. I'm a lifelong republican, I do want a United Ireland in my lifetime. But I wouldn't vote for Socialist left wing anything, because they are generally lead by people with tunnel vision with policies which create other major problems. I also struggle with Sinn Fein, they have lost their way in recent years and have lost core followers. The Social democrats are just Fine Gael light, like the Labour party, the height of their ambition is to maybe hit jackpot as a junior coalition partner at some point. Fianna Fail were once a Republican Party, but are now just a generic center party, I want Ireland to be united and as Independent as European Union membership allows, but I want it done in an intelligent way. no unity of 32 counties shouldnt be the number one priority. housing, healthcare and countless other areas are ahead of a 32 county republic

I hate to tell you this but almost nobody wants a "Socialist Republic".

A socialist republic? You must be joking. I'm already paying for enough scroungers without encouraging any more.

After over 100 yrs of the "socialist state" concept. Can anyone give an example of an even reasonably successful one ??

I disagree. Irish Unity should be a priority, its time to right the criminal wrong of 1920 partition, and no reason why we can't address other issues too. Healthcare will always be a problem because of Unions and the bloated public sector, the amount of high paid admin staff is shocking, we need more front line doctors, nurses and beds, maybe even larger more comfortable waiting areas in A&E's. Instead we have glorified secretarial roles which use titles like "Officer" to justify salaries that top engineers and scientists would struggle to get. Excessive immigration doesn't help either, but thats what the Lisbon Treaty II signed us up for...... that was strongly backed by Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Labour after we initially rejected it. Housing - We went from having almost 300,000 unfinished houses in 2010, to now have a housing crisis since 2023. again this seems to be driven by excessive immigration over the last 12 years, which mopped up a lot of housing. Again, this can be traced back to Lisbon Treaty II and Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Labour etc. Commodore (Donegal) - Posts: 1700 - 03/04/2026 13:35:43 2664577 Link 3 |
