Replying To OverTheHill85:  "Having watched games this year is it fair to say Barry Pierce is our best referee now; thought he had a really good Intermediate Final; allowed the players to play on the edge in terms of physicality and displayed common sense when playing advantage; didn't keep his hand up for 30 seconds like some referees are. He's tight on the rules but definitely got the over carrying call right at the very end also. How his linesman failed to notify him of Shandonaghs obvious breach deep into injury time could have led to very controversial scenes had they ended up winning the game."
That depends who you ask. Many thought he didnt do a great job of senior replay last year. It is very rare you would see 30 seconds for advantage, so not sure what the reference is in relation to. Plus the change this year allows for unlimited advantage. Too many people just don't know the rules which is a problem.
From watching games on clubber and tg 4 we are just as good if not better in terms of standards. Difficult job regardless as others have pointed out.

Need to start penalising people taking too many steps, Loughlin must have taken 12 steps under the stand to get around his man and set up the killer blow for Kinnegad. Kinnegad did not help themselves though cant concede three soft goals and win a county final

The 2nd goal or the 4th goal . I am not sure how the referee didnt pull Luke for over carrying in the game. Goals win games but as far as I can remember these were fouls in the lead up to both goals for the number of steps without a play by Luke.

That's Luke. He can change a game in a matter of seconds, outrunning defenders and becoming an unstoppable force on the pitch. Anyway, business as usual for The Downs. It's frightening how fast they are putting teams to bed. Kinnegad improved ten fold since I seen them in the group game v St Loman's. Darren Giles took the game to The Downs on his own, fellas were hopping off him like he was a force of nature, even Lynam. The Downs will dominate the County for years to come, they can do something that St Loman's failed to do, win a Leinster title.

Any have any teams of the year?

Junior Final should be a good game, i hope weather improves for it, seems to be very late for a county final.
Were county finals usually the start of October ? i remember the weather being better.

The Downs struggled to put Kinnegad to bed all match. Wan't really until Lynam's injury time goal that it was curtains. But they certainly had a great campaign and were worthy winners - something like a total winning margin of 70+ points over their 7 game journey to the title. 3 in a row Tullamore will love coming in under the radar with all this chat about The Downs and Leinster. The winners will more than likely face Ballyboden who are current favourites for Leinster (2/5) and All Ireland (13/5).
Should be a great provincial club championship, hopefully weather holds up. Naomh Mairtin led by Sam Mulroy might cause some surprises but hard to look past the Dublin champions with Galway's Cein Darcy lording midfield.

They were often later. The weather has been really bad this month. It's not always that bad. Many on here will remember the 2000 county final between Shamrocks and Tyrrellspass. 1-5 to 0-2. Was like water polo.

Any thoughts on both Junior Football Finals?
Junior 2: Tyrrellspass v St Pauls on Saturday
Junior 1: Ballinagore v St Josephs on Sunday
Both look like being very tight games. Perhaps Tyrrellspass and Ballinagore?

Impressive selections and great spread of players. I'd have one change to intermediate team, David O' Reilly was outstanding for Rosemount in group stages, he and Boidu led tremendously for a side short 5-6 main players.

Johnny Lynam played 2-3 games for The Downs, not sure he was that influential, Sam McCartan played a similar number for Loman's and rightly wasn't picked

That bodes the question since u mention David was there any earlier a player appeared on both football and hurling team of year or would have if there was .

I hear you…only one I can think of is Eoin o'Brien from Kinnegad…but who drops off Eanna or Peter…..dont think so…,Giles was exceptional in final but not picking him on one game…,Sam missed too much…. Young Ormsby vs Billy or Johnny ….not sure there but he will be some talent in the future along with his younger brother Cristor

Good efforts on picking teams of the year. I think Matthew Gunning from Milltown deserves a mention too. While Luke deservedly gets the plaudits for Downs for me Ian Martin has been there Mr consistent for some time. Adam Flanagan was Tyrrellspass best player.

If true, Caulry should go in house for next manager. All top senior teams this year had in house manager. Too much being wasted on bringing in big names.
