He wont win as people arent going to vote for him as he isnt running but yes he could win if recieved enough votes.

Someone said to me today that turnout might be low because people won't bother if they think the election is a bit of a farce. Fine Gael have their sub on the pitch after Mairéad McGuinness had to pull out. Bertie must have had some inclination he'd get the Fianna Fáil slot. They rejected Billy Kelleher then thought Gavin's football past could get him elected, ignoring his lack of political experience and charisma. Did they not find his skeleton closet? This election and the state of Irish politics is a microism of the state of politics every where. The democratic system that so many longed for and fought for centuries has been hijacked and exploited by greedy crooked politicians. They have set aside integrity, righteousness and honesty for personal gain. You can say it has always been like that but now scraping the bottom of the barrel. I used always say it is better than the alternatives. That's beginning to sound hollow. We the public and social media have also contributed to the demise having lost empathy and caring for fellow humans. The internet has turned people you know into monsters that you can't recognize by bombarding brains that can be manipulated with algorithms, social bots and automated scripts. Just wait artificial intelligence will nail down the coffin lid. Sounds depressing but the society we have and had is tanking. Or can it be turned around ? And there's an idiotic multi millionaire asking people to vote for Gavin so that if he wins, there'll be a re-run. More expense and another circus for a position that requires stamping documents and shaking hands. What we want and need as President is someone who can represent the country with dignity and decorum, meet and greet and sign off on legislation. Even though I am no fan of FG or Heather Humphrys I believe she would do that job well, as would Catherine Connolly.

I presume you mean the guy with the American accent who burst on the scene a few years back but has now moderated it to a more English sounding one. Didn't he have peculiar business ties to the American military? Anyway, I have a feeling that we haven't heard the last of him. On a more human note, it's hard not to have empathy for Gavin. That never should have happened with the tenants. But, where does he go from here ? An innocent to the slaughter - that's probably a bit strong, given the rent issue, but is his public persona fractured beyond repair ??

That's the buachaill! I have some symapthy for Jim Gavin but can't understand why he didn't just settle up. FF tossing him to one side now in the most cynical fashion. Interesting article in this weeks Phoenix magazine on who the tenant was and how much investigative journalism was actually done. Yeah agreed, the district court system is disturbing - We have multiple people with over 150 previous convictions appearing in district courts and getting a €300 fine for theft, assault etc. - A few years back, a person in Donegal in financial difficulty, who couldn't pay their TV license fully on time, was sentenced to a week in Mountjoy. Gardai had to transport the person from Donegal to Dublin to get registered, then the person was told due to crowding and the minor nature of their sentence, they would be immediately be sent home by taxi. Apparently the Garda transport cost €800 and taxi cost €350, so the state had to pay €1150 all for someone who failed to pay €160 tv license on time (Monthly installments). - Criminals who get injured during a robbery of house, can claim from the homeowner afterwards!! I was under the impression "the stand your ground" law allows a homeowner to use "reasonable" force to defend themselves? That's a myth. A criminal cannot claim against the homeowner either civil or criminal if they enter the property unlawfully.

You seem to have something against me. Can't figure why. But it's getting a little tiresome. I am not mocking anyone's accent. I simply said that a high profile individual once had an American accent and now he sounds more English. How is this mocking. This is a fact. So, please, cut me a little slack. I would never knowingly mock any aspect of any personality as, there but for the grace of god go I.
