That will make election of Pope seem straight forward.

He has done great work with Louth. But then I think that great Tyrone man, Mickey Harte had set them on the right path. Louth have been getting results at minor and u20 nice and quietly over the past few years as well.

He'd be in the running alright. He's managed a couple of clubs and was involved with Carlow for a while. He's only a couple of years with Louth so not sure if he's quite ready for the pressure that comes with the Dubs job but he's made of stern stuff and I think would get the right people around him. It will be a tough gig for the next manager with legends like Clucko, Ciaran, Costello, Davey Byrne and Johnny Small likely to exit. Massive rebuild required and the financial doping at underage level isn't yielding results at the moment so no conveyor belt of talent either.

He'll be right in the running if he comes away with the Delaney Cup on Sunday however surely someone like Declan Darcy would be in with a shout? He might be happy enough over with Leinster Rugby but still...

Why he he leave Leinsters best team at Minor, U 20 and Senior to go to a team on the down

That's a joke before anyone jumps in

What he has done for Louth is remarkable since Harte left. Had 2 poor enough league campaigns but every game they needed a win in them campaigns we got them and comfortably enough too
Leinster last year was a cakewalk up until the final in when we done well but we're never really going to win

This year we played poor enough v Laois and Kildare, and apart from the first 20mins against Kildare we never looked like losing either game as when we need scores we seem to be able to get them handy enough

I do think he will get the Dublin job myself but hopefully he leaves as a legend and who knows what else is possible this year if we get over the line tomorrow (we are every bit as good as Armagh especially since they don't have O Neill)

What a man and what a manager. There are only 9 people that have won Leinster as a player and a manager and he is the first to win it with two different counties.

No doubt Ger Brennan has done a great job with Louth, but in sport you have to strike while the iron is hot. If the Dublin job was available after the championship, you'd have to think he'd throw his name in the hat. Why wouldn't he?

Yes I'd imagine at the end of this year depending on how dublin do if they get to an all ireland final well then Farrel will probably stay but if not Ger brennan to dublin and Fergal reel to take over the Louth seniors.

If Dessie goes as expected at the end of this season then the job I'd say is Ger's IF he wants it. I would expect he will get offering the role and I think it'll be a case of having to take it for fear of it not coming around again. One thing in his favour is that there are no other standout candidates who are available and it will always be an internal appointment. I'd say Darcy might be the other name mentioned but not sure if he'd be prepared to leave his gig with Leinster rugby. Ger plus a quality back room team would be fine with me anyway!

Yep looks nailed on now. Don't be surprised if certain Mr Gilroy appears on his backroom team..

From the ground work of Mickey Harte he took on the Louth gig and led Louth in year one to their first ever All Ireland Quarter final and this year won a first Leinster title in 68 years all fine feats for louth.

If he does jump ship into the Dublin hot seat now the expectations raises a lot higher, Reaching the last 8 or winning Leinster will get no praise with Dublin and its a team in full transition and Louth underage level have been better than Dublin in recent years so no easy task at all.

Lovely classy statement released by the Louth County Board.
That is how you release a statement.

Not like the nonsense released a couple of weeks ago from somewhere else....

Yep that's how you release a statement!

Very interested to see this play out now. I wonder if he is a cert for the job or he's just signaling his intent by stepping away from Louth. Some people saying he was leaving the post anyway.

Also how good is he really?? Mickey Harte laid a lot of the foundations of what he walked into in Louth. Prior to that he didn't last long under Carew in Carlow, likewise with Bray Emmets. Lasted 1 season with Moorefield and not a successful season at that and pretty sure he landed in Louth after practically agreeing to take the Laois job. Don't get me wrong he's definitely worth a punt but I also think he 100% needs a pretty stellar backroom team in with him.

Ah will you give over. What were Mayo county board supposed to do ? McStay and Co were given 10 days to resign with dignity and go on their own terms. They refused to go when asked 3 times . We did what we had to do McStay and co have brought us backwards .
Stop being a bunch of snowflakes . Maybe your all just worried that we are finnally getting our s*** together!
You wanted Dessie gone a number of times. Grow up and maybe concentrate on your own team cause God only knows you need to .... !
