The players that Donegal had on the field against Mayo in the league were trying to win and if they had won Donegal would have played the same team in the final.
Mayo are in the exact same position, we need to win.

Cavan have a shot at beating Tyrone and I still have a shot at winning an Olympic Marathon Gold neither is going to happen.

Spot on Endgame. If ourselves and Cavan win on 14th/15th, Cavan will top the group. Unlikely but we live in more hope that we had last week.

I don't think Donegal can be considered favorites against Mayo, as I don't think we have beaten Mayo in league or championship since 2012, with a couple of league draws being as close as we got. When Mayo are fully focused and raring to go, they can challenge any team in the Country.

Its hard to really know where Donegal are at in the bigger picture at this point, its a strange year all around with all the changes.

Are Donegal a better team with Michael Murphy back or is their balance hindered because they're over-dependant on him?

Donegal are 1/3 red hot favs to beat Mayo.

Donegal are 6/1 3rd favs to win SAM

Mayo are 25/1 to win SAM.

Tyrone were 4/11 favs to beat Mayo last Saturday, so the bookies get it wrong sometimes, but very seldom.

No, they weren't trying to win imo. They were very comfortable with a loss in that particular fixture, because they wanted to avoid a possible NFL final, and have a clean break to prepare for Derry in the preliminary Ulster championship round. They even rolled a penalty into the goalkeeper that day, such was their difficulty securing their desired strategic result.

One win for Donegal against Mayo since the 2012 All Ireland final. It was a league game in 2016 in Ballybofey with Donegal winning by 2 points.

No disrespect meant to Cavan but I cannot see them getting a result against Tyrone.

If we assume that Tyrone beat Cavan, Donegal cannot top the table, regardless of the result of the final game - they will either finish second or third and are facing 3 games in 3 weeks, 2 of which will be knock-out.

The only thing that hangs on the Mayo game would be home advantage for a prelim- Q final.

Will this impact on Donegals approach for the game??

I could see a scenario whereby Tyrone are winning comfortably at HT and Jim turns his eye to the following week.

Thoughts - am I clutching at straws here?
