Westmeath Hurling thread

On a positive note, cbs seem to have yet another talented crop coming through with the 1st year hurling team competing at "A' Level and defeating Ard Scoil Ris by 18 points. That's a number of sides from Mary's competing at A level in hurling. Great work going on in the school in both codes, lots of ambition.

Got beat with Limerick having about 5/6 starters off championship team. Tough times ahead I'm afraid for all

Seeing as Offaly are without Conneely Kiely Screeney and King i think we have a serious chance of getting the win. We've always given offaly plenty of it over the years.

Presumably you're taking financial advantage of your optimism. The bookies in town had Westmeath available at 8-1 earlier, they're rarely wrong in their pricing. Offaly with a chance to seal promotion to the top tier to face Limerick, Tipperary and Co while condemning us to division 3 to play Donegal and Tyrone. Our team is stronger than previously with Niall and Killian starting but fitness wise and form wise we've a lot of question marks, a decent performance would be an improvement

Given Offaly teams of the past plenty. We are on different ends of the spectrum at present. Offaly are reaping the benefits of investing in there future over the past 10 years developing centre of excellence and focusing on the developing future talent. We haven't.

I'm hopeful of a good performance with Killian Doyle and NOB giving us more threat up front. A huge task against a well drilled young offaly team with serious momentum. Can't see our defence dealing with the Offaly forwards judging on recent form. Too many mistakes and leaking silly goals. Bookies have it priced right.

Not exactly big county westmeath so have lot pick from big men not only reason small players can be good and show fight Clarke was OK but bigger issue lack scoring options up front and playing for one half let's honest offaly going well was always going be hard. Who do you pick so that's not on it they could be big and crap.

Don't buy that just about that's it's combination of several reasons

1 point from play in 39 minutes of a second half is scandalous at this level. Not fit unfortunately.. This appointment was made in July and nothing put in place.. Lead to believe former Clare all Ireland winner was a coach but he wasn't... Spent next few months looking for a coach when should have had plans in place for the year.. That offaly team won handy in second gear.. Very disappointing again

Would not be as harsh.Remember Offaly went to Croke Park last week and beat Dublín.We need more Big men without a doubt Jogger and Dara Egerton are huge loses.David O Reilly Davy Glennon and Kilian Doyle all just back so as are relegated management need to work hard on them.
I still think if we get our squad right we can win Mcdonagh.
Let's see how we get on with the big Munster team next week.

Players saying they were hounded to play in first place is starting off on the wrong foot. Asked once and if they say no then move on. It's disrespectful to lads. Really poor stuff. Don't know if anyone at the top are going to do something or just hope it goes away as the method in which this appointment was made leaves a lot to be desired..

Players look dejected again. The players coming back is not the issue...
We've Laois away then Kildare away as it is we will lose them two matches. I think we are in serious bother to retain McDonagh status. Nothing personal but way out of their depth. Got kicked out of Meath and you can see why..

Probably getting a bit ahead myself here. However, assuming there will be a management change at the end of the season. It's time to look inside the county if there are willing candidates and rebuild.

Alan Mangan would be a good internal candidate. Knows all the players in the county and has done very well with Castletown. Either way I think this management's days are numbered.

Mangan with possibly Clonkills O'Brien and maybe John Shaw if he has good campaign with club. A left field option would be Paddy Dowdall...

I'd say it will be before the end of the season. If we lose to Waterford and Carlow I'd say change will be made.
