Never at senior level although Clonkill defeated the kilkenny intermediate champions in 2007..

I think they wil leave 100% and they will have got a major confidence boost.KK will be a diffeent animal maybe not as physical as before so it should be a great game.If Castletown show the same intensity as in their last two games they will be hard bet.But any let up and a return to easy going skilfiul Castletown which Clonkill exploited many times wont do.

Looking at the regional teams, have a lot of players from the senior clubs not committed or is it that the county management are already aware of players playing senior and want to see how the intermediate / senior B players get on playing at a higher level

I'd say the latter, more than likely lads from senior who Management wanted were probably asked directly in. This competition will be a chance for players in Intermediate and senior B

It's quite strange seeing subs on senior B teams being brought in for this competition

Seems like a good initiative but not sure if there's an awful lot to be gained by tonight's game. Looking through the 2 teams there's quite a few who wouldn't make it into the Castletown or Raharney teams never mind a Westmeath county team

There is definitely far better non county hurlers in senior clubs who weren't involved in this today who are surely more worthy of a "Westmeath senior hurling trial"
Castletown: Obviously involved in senior
Raharney: Darren Finn,Devin Hill, David Hickey
Clonkill: Ciaran Nolan, Matthew Glynn
LL: Daire Daly, Dan Higgins, Dan Reilly, Philly Reilly, Jason Malone, Marcus & Aaron Kennedy
Pollard: John McCarthy, Joe Rabbit, Darragh o Reilly, Sean Lancaster
Daltons: No players involved at all it seems??

I see lots of players who don't start for their clubs. Brian Gilchrist & Conor Sheridan don't start for pollard
Seb McPherson & Enda Newman don't start for delvin. Sean Jackson doesn't get played for Castletown which is why he isn't involved with Leinster campaign
Dan Connaughton doesnt start for Cullion
Eoin English doesn't always start for pollard
Robbie Cleary was taken off after 20 minutes in senior semi final

Who was in charge with picking these panels?

Leinster club hurling is very strong.

In the last 10 years the all Ireland club has been won by

6 x Leinster (Ballyhale x 4, Cuala x 2)
2 x Galway ( Portumna, St Thomas)
2 x Munster (Na Piarsaigh, Ballygunnar)

Na Fianna look very good. but I think all 4 semi finalists are in with a great shout of winning it out.

I wouldn't rule the Martins out. They look fit and hungry. Obviously up against it in Parnell Park, but if their big players perform they have good hurlers starting, and on the bench.

I think it's a good initiative but probably bad timing. Panel is having a big turn over so lots of fresh faces gone straight into extended panel I'd imagine. Lots of decent players don't want to play with Westmeath which leads to a watered down version.

For a true reflection of players outside the big 3/4 you'd want this played as an actual championship so the best players from each team play and play properly. similar to the Kerry amalgamation championship.

I would say Bulfin has already got in players who impressed him in the club championship and is using these trial games as a way of unearthing one or two more. Particularly from intermediate and senior B

yes i agree on both your points, the leinster club is actually a better competition than the munster.
On st martins i just inclined to not see them beating na fianna, mainly so in that the wexford champs just havent had a good campaign in recent years, i always thought martins had great potential about 5 years ago but it didnt happen for them, maybe as you say they will do it this year. its just na fianna and kilcormac are developing into a type of superclub at this moment in time.
on CTG i was watching a podcast on youtube the other day and the lack of credit that they got for beating thomastown was ridiculous, saying they were always a team beaten from pillar to post in leinster, i wonder do any of these analysts on youtube know anything, i remember a few years ago ctg gave kk a good game and i was at the mlr game in 2013 when they were unlucky to lose and mlr got to an all ireland after.

CTG were far better than Thomastown, slicker and took scores from all angles of the field. The last two games has seen them hit 2-52. It's a pity a few of their key players are gone abroad but it shows the quality of player available to them despite that.

Agree the same podcast I left comment underneath too disrespect shown to ctg no analysis just lazy on thomastown didn't show up etc because it's westmeath it's terrible mentality and lack of research

Possibly I think few ctg particularly impressed this year Peter Murphy and Morgan gavigan were good in the final and last day wonder will they be called in
