Yes definitely make plenty noise and give the boys all the support you can, a lot of these band wagon event junkies sit there looking at their phones and taking selfies and they'll hardly know the Donegal team from the Kerry team. I'd say a good lot of them weren't even familiar with the old rules never mind the new rules, annoys me to look at them, they might also have a few disinterested kids with them, makes my blood boil when I think of the good football people and supporters who bought tickets all year and now can't get to the final. Suppose it's the same in every county that's in the final every year. I think if McGonagle is fit we have to start him, Kerry are a strong physical team, we need as much muscle as we can muster. I would agree with everything you posted, quietly optimistic. I think we are peaking at the right time and have a full deck to pick from. Unlike the last 2 matches we will have to start on the front foot and take the game to Kerry. I'm confident Jim will have a plan and the players should implement it. It's still on the day but I think we will do enough to get over the line. Scenicparish (Donegal) - Posts: 716 - 24/07/2025 18:17:24 2627745 Link 0 |
They've reached 4, but they've only played in 3 (so far).

The county probably got 2-3000 tickets for the lower hogan but they'll go to the players, executive, sponsors etc. ThroughTheGap (Donegal) - Posts: 74 - 24/07/2025 18:34:44 2627754 Link 0 |

Yes you're right focus on the here and now and the future because it's not possible for Donegal to change their dismal past record in the GAA's roll of honour.

Well if Donegal were like Dublin and had the privilege to play every provincial and AI semi final and finals at home it might be a bit better. You seen what happened Dublin in the Leinster final this year. Beaten by a team that Donegal obliterated by 20 points pulling up. peiledoir20 (Donegal) - Posts: 1289 - 24/07/2025 21:01:40 2627782 Link 0 |

The hedge school era is a long time ago and to be honest we'd not be too bothered about football and hurling then

Jim McGuinness talks quite a bit about bringing through the best minor into the panel and it's interesting to see how successful thing. Using under 18 to keep it consistent each minor year is covered from 2011 to 2020 by the 20 players who got game time against meath. There were some good teams in there and some not as good a teams but it didn't really seem up to matter too much when it came to actually bringing the players through. There is also a certain symmetry with Murphy and Roarty book ending 4 years either side in 2007 and 2024. Ulsterchamps_32 (Donegal) - Posts: 914 - 24/07/2025 22:11:44 2627793 Link 0 |
100 % agree . They are very self entitled like they feel they deserve an all Ireland.

Even if they player ends up on the bench they still deserve all the best of luck wishes. They can still come on and play a big part with 5 Subs. Even those who don't get on should be wished all the best, they've put in massive work and are all a big part of any success, pushing teammates on, without the big group for lads we have we wouldn't be as good as we are.

I can't imagine how sad a life you have when all you can think to do with your time is post this tripe on the Donegal forum.

Personally, I believe if we are to win Jason McGee has to start, when he gases out, replace him with mcgonagle, we need their fielding ability around the middle. Mcfadden has done a job for us but I believe if he starts, Kerry will target him for his lack of pace. Mcfadden is as honest as the day is long but we need our best players on the field to win. totalrecall (Leitrim) - Posts: 1128 - 24/07/2025 23:51:18 2627811 Link 0 |
Time for us all to step up here lads and discuss likely tactics, outcomes, match ups etc for a huge final in 3 days time instead having this dominated by posters from elsewhere slagging off the participating counties . Looking forward to a fascinating contest between two good teams , contrasting styles with so much revolving about key players on both sides. Kerry have impressed by making the most of their purple patches, dominating possession and kicking incredible scores with ease. David Clifford has the X factor but the support cast are very good as well. He will always score and is accurate from frees as well , recall his point from a disputed free from near the right sideline to put Kerry ahead in the final moments of the 2022 final v Galway. Any team holding him to 3-4 points from play without him scoring a goal will have done a good days work. Joe O Connor is having a storming season and driving the team on from midfield , Brian O Beaglaoich has that uncanny knack of beating an opponent and ghosting into a point scoring position. Gavin White's surging runs , Jason Foleys defending, Paudie Clifford's workrate and leadership along with Seanie O Shea's free taking made them a very formidable outfit. Donegal appear to do best when opting to play against the wind first half, they aim to stay in touch and kick on when the game opens up with the wind advantage 2nd half. There seems to be an onus under the new rules for a team with the breeze to have some kind of a cushion by half time … one feared for Meath in semi final turning over losing 13-08 to play against the breeze 2nd half. Michael Murphy is having a terrific season and will go down as having one of the greatest comeback in Gaelic football should Donegal win. As always Sunday's result will have a big bearing on POTY, YPOTY and All Star selection. Peadar Mogan, Ryan McHugh, Ciaran Moore and young Finbarr Roarty attack from deep at pace offering great options on the counter. Conor O Donnell is a fast, accurate forward and Michael Langan is a mighty stylish operator for such a tall man. Shane O Donnell's work rate is off the charts. Paddy McBrearty is the ideal substitute to launch when play has opened up and defenders are tiring a little. Hours will be spent by pundits discussing match ups and scenarios that may never come to pass. Newspapers will have full page spreads about players who may have quite games. Who will win ? The answer is nobody knows for sure , stage could be set for a Dylan Geaney or Shane O Donnell to land key match winning scores. A genuine 50:50 contest but anything could unfold after 3.30pm Sunday , enjoy the occasion you lucky, lucky supporters of both teams. Best of luck this weekend lads I think yee will win this easily enough in the end! Mcguiness will rightfully join some of the greats on Sunday evening and rightfully so, he is a brilliant manager. Northsidegaels (Meath) - Posts: 252 - 25/07/2025 05:31:45 2627824 Link 0 |
I'm curious about this, how is it arrogance? He says he is quietly confident and that we are peaking at the right time which is correct. He then says he thinks Donegal will have enough to get over the line. Nothing he says is arrogant, nowhere did he say Donegal will definitely beat Kerry. I'm honestly curious if you think this or are just trolling. If youre just trolling then my bad for responding dats_rite (Australia) - Posts: 16 - 25/07/2025 09:15:30 2627833 Link 0 |
