You're right. Whatever about that decision, our wide count was high. And some of them were very scoreable, even with the poor conditions I thought.

Centre backs fault.

yeah without a doubt I don't think the ref negatively impacted the game, that just stuck in the craw at such a big moment, but as another poster alluded to the two collisions that Hughie was involved in, they were right in front of me, not a hope in hell was either of them a free to Donegal, should have stopped the game alright but restart it with a hop ball as I don't think anyone had secured possession on either occasions (stand to be corrected). I think the one that McNamee ended up going off for was a particularly bad collision where he came off worse, both players with eyes on the ball and he just took a bad whack to the head, but I think the ref gave us the free. had that been in the last minute and ended up being the winning of the game for Donegal, Tyrone fans would rightly be aggrieved. Swings and roundabouts in the game terrible conditions and could have been a real scrappy one with heaps of frees given, but the ref did as well as you could hope really CCFabu (Donegal) - Posts: 192 - 25/05/2025 17:35:05 2612458 Link 0 |
Tyrone deserved the win in the end last night, as I felt a few of our players weren't clicking fully in that game. Some were nullified by Tyrone tactics, but a lot of it was running into traffic or sloppy passing or lack of awareness of Tyrone players nearby. Jim alluded to it after the game, that we did a lot things that are just not Donegal. Commodore (Donegal) - Posts: 1353 - 25/05/2025 18:48:20 2612479 Link 0 |
Yeah that's it. I haven't watched back the game but like I said at half time with the two goals I felt we got away with one only 3 points down. I've no doubt if Patton played we'd have gotten over the line and not forgetting Mogan who we missed with his overlapping. It's up to the rest to show up and not overly rely on the two Michaels from now on. Daire is showing worrying signs of mirroring his form from last season. Starting well before petering out. If Gallen isn't fully fit he'd be better used as an impact for now. Massive game next week and you never know what night happen in the other game. You'd expect Tyrone to win handy but Mayo have a habit of playing to the opposition and could surprise.

Gonna keep it short and sweet. I'm glad we got the win,but patton was the difference TalkToFahy (Tyrone) - Posts: 40 - 25/05/2025 19:35:47 2612497 Link 0 |
That's the worrying thing. If we are so reliant on a keeper to beat a Tyrone side who let's be honest, we are better than 15 by 15, then we have big issues. Our bench is not good enough. Hugh, Aaron Doherty and eoin mchugh coming off the bench won't be winning any all Ireland's any time soon.

With Patton we are All-Ireland contenders, without him we are fairly average Qtr finalists at best. PeterQ92 (Donegal) - Posts: 157 - 25/05/2025 20:06:07 2612510 Link 0 |
I don't think Gallen is injured, he had a great first half in the Ulster final, he made very little impact last night imo, a good few times I seen him get played in where he should have taken on his man he just passed the ball back out, Daire O'Baoill got taken off probably because he lost possession a few times but at least he was trying to break through, Gallen was taking the easy option it seemed to me, maybe I'm being a bit harsh on him, a lot of our lads did not play well last night. Listen have to regroup and focus 100% on Cavan now, McGuinness was at a loss to explain last nights underperformance too I see, just a bad day at the office, we move on, get behind the team and I hope we bring big support to Breffni. Ref nothing to do with the loss. It's squarely at the feet of Jim this time. SurelyToGod (Donegal) - Posts: 461 - 25/05/2025 21:18:05 2612537 Link 1 |
Daire wasn't good last night. A couple of poor efforts on goal but crucially carrying the ball into the tackle and getting turned over. I knew he'd be hooked sooner rather than later. You're right about Gallen, he's an all star for a reason. I have also noticed the stretching as commented elsewhere.

In fairness I think the defence was overall ok. If you are going to mention brendan mccole as been a standout i think you would also need to mention finbarr roarty. He's been excellent too. Some of the timing of his dispossession tackles are just so good. He played with loads on energy too. The first goal was a basic mistake and the second from the cardinal sin of a kick for a point being short into Morgans hands. Donegal also kicked too many wides and sloppy turnovers up the field. The turnover when two points ahead being crucial. We never touched the ball from then. Ulsterchamps_32 (Donegal) - Posts: 839 - 25/05/2025 22:28:52 2612555 Link 0 |
Are you advocating that murphy doesn't start. In the same it doesn't matter what roarty is it doesn't matter what age murphy is. Is all about performance and murphy and roarty both performed. Who would have hit all them super frees to keep us in the game. Patton is super but if you take the best players off any team and they struggle and the keeper has never been as important as this year. Imagine how monaghan would suffer without beggan or tyrone without Morgan, patton has built his skills and understanding with the outfield players over years. Mulreanny did ok up to the last 5 minutes and hopefully focus on it some more in this week's one training session will help against cavan. You're good craic - the way your manager was running after the Ref when we beat you in Ulster a month or so ago would indicate Ulster very much mattered. Easy to dismiss it when you didn't get near winning it. As for Big Boy stuff, zero All Irelands would suggest the Big Boy stuff won't include yourselves anyway.

Roarty has been excellent and I think he's a supreme talent for his age, but he's playing left wing half back. Peadar Mogan has been playing deeper than Roarty all year. McCole is the only player he's using who can defend high balls, tackle without fouling, and carry out of defence. To deal with varied attacking threat like Galway, Tyrone, and Kerry we need to play a McMeniman or Curran alongside McCole as genuine defensive support or else we will continue to leak goals. Instead Curran played for Dungloe this weekend, who've conceded 2 goals in last 7 matches. SurelyToGod (Donegal) - Posts: 461 - 26/05/2025 00:29:46 2612573 Link 0 |
