Id like to see you turn up to Carricks preseason next month and say that to them. See how far you get

Oh sure it is a very boring sport, leathering the ball over the sideline out of play and people cheering it and not in an ironic way. You wouldn't see the like at a junior b game at 11am on a Sunday morning.

Why would I turn up to Carrick's preseason training? I don't play for them. That would be very silly indeed.

Anyone at any club games the weekend? williesboy (Leitrim) - Posts: 502 - 13/07/2025 14:22:14 2625259 Link 0 |
It wasn't a great game. Mohill were poor and missing all their big. Donal Flynn went off after 15mins for mohill injured. Fenagh vs leitrim gaels will tell a lot for the league and where leitrim gaels are at.

Fenagh won't be stopped this year for me. They've already won the prestigious spring league, powering past teams in the real league and who is to stop them in championship? Could be embarrassingly easy for them as mohill seem to have fallen off a cliff no Since coach o Hara left the stage to move on to manage some of the games greats in Boyle. Saint Marys are very very boring to watch and ballinamore are a disjointed mess isn't them. Leitrim gaels with the three northern guys aboard their ship will be hard beaten but then again if they're so good why were all three allowed to leave their own club?!? This is a question we must ponder going forward. Have they luggage with them in tow that will give the Leitrim gaels head coach some issues? How can he keep everyone in the squad happy? Headache he like I'm sure but all the same one he don't like too yes. bláthach (Leitrim) - Posts: 191 - 13/07/2025 20:40:16 2625383 Link 0 |
Fenagh are the Mayo of Leitrim football. They should have already won a Leitrim championship in the past couple of years, but they didn't. They've got some very good players, but their squad is light - a few injuries and they're in trouble. I wouldn't write Ballinamore off either. Currently missing 3 good forwards, which will add alot come championship. For me, it's St Mary's championship to lose. They have a nice, balanced squad and are consistent. Leitrim Gaels? They could walk the championship… or get knocked out at the semi-final stage. they currently have an issue with keeping cool heads. having watched a lot of the teams at this stage to me its between Fenagh and Leitrim Gaels, but Ballinamore won't be far behind them. i'm not sure about carrick, they've no real marquee forward. meathbasedfan (Leitrim) - Posts: 179 - 14/07/2025 09:42:34 2625511 Link 0 |
If anyone is calling a winner at this stage you are deluded. williesboy (Leitrim) - Posts: 502 - 14/07/2025 11:22:19 2625543 Link 1 |
it is typically held after the ACL finals are played. ACL finals scheduled for weekend of 9/10th August so if this is still the case, it is a bit of a wait to know who you are playing first but that is part of the craic

Allen Gaels strong favourites but be interesting to see if their collapse in last years final weighs heavy on them in the latter stages of the championship. I'd have Annaduff and my dark horse Kiltubrid ahead of Gortletteragh who have a lot of injuries and players away. JimmyNail (Leitrim) - Posts: 285 - 14/07/2025 14:14:13 2625626 Link 0 |
Gortletteragh?? You having a laugh. They wouldn't win an argument with themselves.

Can see Annaduff making the drop to junior tbh which is probably their correct level.

A bit off topic but I've been to a few games throughout the leagues and have been quite puzzled by the inconsistency of some refs and their decisions. Now, I get the new rules are having a huge impact on games and how they are reffed but I do sense a frustration from teams on how some things are interpreted by different officials. I actually think the standard of reffing in Leitrim isnt that bad but am open to correction. Has anyone else noted the same? I've noticed a few of the experienced refs have packed it in (McBrien, Foley, etc). anklesockhater (Leitrim) - Posts: 5 - 15/07/2025 12:05:12 2625813 Link 0 |
main thing I noticed is the 3 up defending/ 3 back attacking rule is not being enforced, fair enough teetering around the half way line for a long pass if opposition is turned over but playing an actual sweeper when defending is making a mockery of it yet I've not seen it being called yet. What is up with that? I know we have a few refs around the 70 mark but if you cannot keep up with the play and pay attention to the new rules, why bother. Before anyones ask, no I do not ref but if I did I would try call it as I see it and not just ignore blatant disregard for the new rules. gaelsboy (Leitrim) - Posts: 660 - 15/07/2025 13:45:21 2625831 Link 0 |
I see you're new here... don't mind boxty... he's what we call a WUM and not to be taken seriously.
