If it doesn't happen now then I'm afraid it'll never happen. It's well and truly broken. I don't know what more it'll take for the top table to shout stop. No more than most Leitrim people I've spent the last 15 years trying to defend the indefensible. Losing to London, New York, the countless hammerings at all age grades. The list is endless. If there were even tentative signs of progress it'd be something to cling to but there are zero signs. This year has been a wake up call for even the most loyal of supporters. We've been taken for granted and advantage of for too long. Like a lot of failing entities/businesses the market will ultimately decide our fate. This will happen in two ways: 1. Our pool of potential inter county players will shrink even further. Playing numbers at club level will remain steady but playing inter county will become even less attractive. This is already happening and will become more pronounced in the next 3 or 4 years. Fellas will choose to play with their clubs only. Talk to a 12 or 13 year old right now and the county teams are a joke to them. 2. Funding will reduce to a trickle. Ironically the clubs will actually do well as supporters focus more on their clubs. Sponsors will view the Leitrim brand as damaging to their business. Outside of a very wealthy benefactor coming on board its going to be a barren spell for fundraising. This will obviously exacerbate our issues. We will be reaping what we've sown however. I hope I'm wrong of course but I'm confident that this is the way it's going to be. There's no evidence to suggest that I will be wrong. ThePowerhouse (Leitrim) - Posts: 234 - 17/05/2025 14:09:42 2610218 Link 0 |
