I think that Harnan should be a impact sub

So harnan and Kenny in, forwards unchanged.

Not unreasonable I'd say

No surprises on the team listed on the main page. Hopefully Carroll is a bit more up to speed, and that Gillespie remembers what he's there for.

Is poster "blind ref" MOD in disguise as he named this team last week.

Mick O'Dowd has announced his Meath team to play Wexford:

Meath (SFC v Wexford) - Paddy O Rourke; Donal Keoghan, Kevin Reilly, Bryan Menton; Padraic Harnan, Caomhín King, Seamus Kenny; Brian Meade, Conor Gillespie; Peadar Byrne, Damien Carroll, Graham Reilly; Eamonn Wallace, Stephen Bray, Michael Newman.

Whats everyone thinking ..No Menton at 6 but that could change i expect Newman to be on the ball a lot more Brayer to stay closer to goal this time and to get decent ball in this time given how big croke park is ..alot pressure on young Harnan hope he comes through croke park test alright.. we still have a decent subs bench..cant make up my mind on this one but as it gets closer i am starting to get some confidence seems like alot of pundits are going for Wexford ...the difference in this game is Wexford v Meath game is Meath where hot favorites to beat wexford not this time so maybe this will suit the royal county ...nice quiet build up and i think Meath showed some grit in Wicklow if we show that again might be the difference.. roll on Sunda

Interesting Mickey Burke on bench (I was beginning to think MOD was stuck on him). For me, I'm looking for Keoghan to get back his brilliant form (like before he was injured in that Laois game), and that King is marshalled by Kevin R behind him. With G Reilly running from deep, we might have a good shout here upto 60minutes.....

BUT in the last 10 minutes ....it will be a 20 man job, the 5 coming on have to keep up the pace ....Now a challenge (injuries notwithstanding)...
name the 5 coming off, and the 5 you would put on?

Its great to see seamus kenny back starting, great at getting the loose ball around the middle and will definately get stuck in. I'd say menton will stay at the back line and king in centre half, menton is a better man to man defender which will be needed again wexford forward line. Keogan is due a good game too. We need to get something out of the midfield department, cause i believe with decent ball our 6 forwards will cause alot of trouble to the yellowbelly backs. Common Meath!!

I'm happy enough with the team, it's pretty much as expected, I'd be looking for big performances from Bray, Carroll and Gillespe though, they're the ones who are on the edge of being dropped. Harnan deserves his place after the Wicklow game but let him just go about his business, let's not put pressure on the young man, also good to see Kenny back in, hopefully he can inject a bit of fire that was missing around the middle against Wicklow.

Really looking forward to the game now, don't know how the nerves are going to cope on Sunday though, UP DA ROYAL!!!

I would be a bit worried for Kenny,King and Byrne in Croke Park,bu to be fair to management we did not have many options in the back-line.The only issue I would have is Menton at corner back..

Just one other thing, the same goes for any game, but if Gillespie/Meade get injured, outplayed,or simply you need a change in midfield for the last 20,em what have to got?

That is the obvious problem ziggy, there really isn't any good alternatives, having said that now I don't think Gillespie's been awful but I wouldn't like to see MOD settle for a player just because there aren't any obvious replacements. Ps hopefully Shane O'Rourke can gain back fitness and challenge for his place in the next few months.

I think you end up having to reshuffle your defence then.
Menton to 3, Reilly to midfield and bring on burke/lenihan or whoever in defence.

i wouldn't give up on Gillispe just yet lads i haven't see to much of him this year but i taught he did ok against Wicklow he broke the ball a good bit but was slight off in breaking it ..but there was no one there to win it Kenny/ Harnan should be better breaking ball winners than burke /Lenihan. i do worry about his commitment in tough games he seems to be confidence player and can dip his head but he is still young. here's hoping the open spaces in croke park might suit him also he played well enough there against Kildare last year and did ok against Monaghan in league final. lets see how he goes ... think positive

Or just bring on Joe in midfield

Difficult one that.
I'll name the 5 who MAY come on, but hard to name the 5 going off as it would imply that they are expected to have a poor game or whatever, but we'll give it a go.

OFF: (in no order)
Peader - work like a dog for 45 mins and then leave with the tank empty
Carroll/Bray - Hope Im wrong, but If one of these 2 starts like they played v Wicklow, then half time could be their curtains.
King - Again based on nothing more than the fact that Wexford forwards will be a handfull and enough to force changes in the Meath defence.
Kenny - may not have 70 mins.
A.N Other - Like trying to predict the future

ON: (No Order again)
Paddy Gilsenan -On to continue Byrnes work
Joe - A different option up front
Lenihan - In for someone who may be having a tough day in the defence
Burke - Lads will be picking up yellows and he'll be thrown in for one of the defenders if thats the case
Farrell - I know nobody will agree with me here but Id throw him in with 20 mins to go.

Lenihan on as a sub for Byrne could be another option, but it all depends on how the game is going etc.. Gilsenan has always played better at corner forward
