trim1 your defence looks very good but i would not be in favour of Conor Gilispie at 10 or Peader Byrne at corner forward. 12Royal (Meath) - Posts: 987 - 05/08/2010 14:37:22 736888 Link 0 |
Of the 6 backs that started last sunday, all were beaten by their direct opponents with the exception of Reilly. Both against Louth and Kildare Eoghan Harrington was destroyed. Does Eamonn OBrien not have confidence in any of the subs that he watched harrington in both games. Also Gary O'Brien not up to this standard, Anthony Moyles past it and Caoimhin King not half the player he was 2/3 years ago. Bottom line is we need a new defence. Not sure the players are in Meath for such big changes GreenGael (Meath) - Posts: 108 - 05/08/2010 14:50:06 736916 Link 0 |
GreenGael the defenders are in Meath if only EOB would pick them. 12Royal (Meath) - Posts: 987 - 05/08/2010 22:00:19 737617 Link 0 |
We definitely have the backs and next year I hope Eamon will have a good look at some of them in the remainder of the championship. men_of_49 (Meath) - Posts: 2003 - 06/08/2010 09:36:14 737658 Link 0 |
Agree with you Men of 49. The players are there, but hope some of the ones you mentioned like the two lads from Rathkenny are tested in the league and prove that they are up to the standard. We know Cormac McGill is as he proved in the '08 championship I think. Young Bryan Menton should yes, be given a chance, and hopefully he can prove his worth. As well as Summerhill's Davy Dalton. All need time to prove their worth as we all know that playing well at club level is one thing but playing well at county level is a completely different story. All bar McGill, have not played and successfully proven they can do it at intercounty level. But they definitely need to be given a chance. I know Dalton and Menton played O'Byrne Cup and challenge matches respectively, but championship is a different story. The two Rathkenny lads David Donegan and Donal Keoghan are completely untested at senior intercounty level (as far as I know) but should yes be given a look at the very least. I'd also add young McGill and McManus from the Ratoath minors to get looked at. I know they are both very very young but maybe worth a interested look to see if potential is definitely there. Don't know if anybody agrees. David (Meath) - Posts: 567 - 06/08/2010 14:44:20 738173 Link 0 |

moin dearg ciaran breslin got a transfer to the tones 4 years ago to play senior football but as of yet is still only a bit part of their junior A team. I didnt see any other criticism towards my team so what exactly is your problem fashthebash (Meath) - Posts: 36 - 06/08/2010 19:30:28 738699 Link 0 |
Am I the only one that thinks Seamus Kenny was excellent in the role that he played for Meath and would be my Meath player of the year, so why is everyone moving him back to the halfbacks. As far as a lot of the other players go I'd be starting to look for alternatives. In the forwards I think we generally have the best six forwards in the county on the field, but having said that I'd be looking to drop some of these purely due to their workrates when Meath are not in possesion. With fifteen minutes to go last Sunday and Meath still very much in the game one of our attacks broke down and Kildares defence broke out. There were five Kildare men in a row streaming out of the defence while Joe Sheridan, Shane O rourke and Steven Bray stood there looking at them with their hands on their hips. You can generally carry one, maybe 2 of these type of players but not four or five which is what we have at the moment. We have the players on the panel, Shane McInerney, Peader Byrne and Ollie Lewis that can do the tracking back as well as chipping in with the odd score. I think our management have a very dated perspective on what makes an AI winning team. We'd all love to go back to the days when the team with the best players won the AI, but thats not going to happen. I for one would prefer to win ugly than not at all. hootervillian (Meath) - Posts: 309 - 07/08/2010 14:42:18 739200 Link 0 |
