O'Rourke/Lyons
McGill, Reilly, Dalton
Harrington, McGuinness, O' Brien/Kenny
Crawford, Meade/Gilespie
Kenny/Byrne, Reilly, Sheridan
Ward/Queeney, O'Rourke, Bray

Hopefully we can unearth a few new and better names during the remainder of the championship. I would not be adverse to dropping any member of the current team if better can be found. However players that I don't expect to be bettered are: K Reilly, G Reilly, Kenny and Stephen Bray. All the rest including Joe and Shane O' Rourke may just have better replacements awaiting them. In reality I don't expect more than two or three changes for next year and this too could be a good thing as it gives continuity. Now let's take a step back, play our championship and give a bit of encouragement to whoever holds the reins for next year. I just hope the County Board can either give Eamon the green light or replace him before the month is out. There is no reason for foot dragging.

1. B. Murphy
2. D. Dalton
3. K. Reilly
4. C. McGill
5. M. Burke
6. C McGuinness
7. S Kenny
8. N Crawford
9. B Meade
10. C. Gillespie
11. S O'Rourke
12. G Reilly
13. D Bray / Peader/ Queeney
14. J Sheridan
15. S. Bray / B.Farrell / B. Sheridan / Ward

I would like to see the above team based on current panel. Mickey Burke & Kenny as wing backs as they are both tenacious and should help get more breaking ball. Hopefully Mickey fully recovers from injury. C. Gillespie as a 3rd midfielder to try to improve the situation there. If Crawford retires or disimproves then other alternatives including M. Ward should be looked at. Crucial that we identify any possible alternative midfielders as soon as possible.
I would still have a 3 man half forward line leaving Joe and one of S. Bray/ Farrell/ B. Sheridan / Ward in there with him depending on form etc. Need to also make sure that there are free taking options in there at all times as that can be the winning or losing of a game.

trim1 your defence looks very good but i would not be in favour of Conor Gilispie at 10 or Peader Byrne at corner forward.

Of the 6 backs that started last sunday, all were beaten by their direct opponents with the exception of Reilly. Both against Louth and Kildare Eoghan Harrington was destroyed. Does Eamonn OBrien not have confidence in any of the subs that he watched harrington in both games. Also Gary O'Brien not up to this standard, Anthony Moyles past it and Caoimhin King not half the player he was 2/3 years ago. Bottom line is we need a new defence. Not sure the players are in Meath for such big changes

We definitely have the backs and next year I hope Eamon will have a good look at some of them in the remainder of the championship.

The situation with Cormac McGill is well documented but surely the management team will cop on and realise he is better that what's already on the panel.

Davy Dalton excelled when markng Brogan against Dublin and even though it was only the O'Byrne Cup he did enough to suggest he can do it at the highest level. He has more pace than Harrington and in my view would be a better man-marker.

Bryan Menton was the talk of the county when he impressed in a couple of pre-championship challenge matches but never got a look in thereafter. He should definitely get his chance in the league, perhaps at centre back and pushing McGuinness out to the wing.

I have seen Rathkenny play twice this year and their two wing backs - David Donegan and Donal Keoghan - really impressed me. Both have pace to burn while the biggest weakness of Moyles and King is their lack of speed and agility.

That's five players that I think Eamon should be looking at and no doubt there are more from other clubs across the county. They at least should get a chance to prove their worth.

Agree with you Men of 49. The players are there, but hope some of the ones you mentioned like the two lads from Rathkenny are tested in the league and prove that they are up to the standard. We know Cormac McGill is as he proved in the '08 championship I think. Young Bryan Menton should yes, be given a chance, and hopefully he can prove his worth. As well as Summerhill's Davy Dalton. All need time to prove their worth as we all know that playing well at club level is one thing but playing well at county level is a completely different story. All bar McGill, have not played and successfully proven they can do it at intercounty level. But they definitely need to be given a chance. I know Dalton and Menton played O'Byrne Cup and challenge matches respectively, but championship is a different story. The two Rathkenny lads David Donegan and Donal Keoghan are completely untested at senior intercounty level (as far as I know) but should yes be given a look at the very least. I'd also add young McGill and McManus from the Ratoath minors to get looked at. I know they are both very very young but maybe worth a interested look to see if potential is definitely there. Don't know if anybody agrees.

moin dearg ciaran breslin got a transfer to the tones 4 years ago to play senior football but as of yet is still only a bit part of their junior A team. I didnt see any other criticism towards my team so what exactly is your problem

Am I the only one that thinks Seamus Kenny was excellent in the role that he played for Meath and would be my Meath player of the year, so why is everyone moving him back to the halfbacks. As far as a lot of the other players go I'd be starting to look for alternatives. In the forwards I think we generally have the best six forwards in the county on the field, but having said that I'd be looking to drop some of these purely due to their workrates when Meath are not in possesion. With fifteen minutes to go last Sunday and Meath still very much in the game one of our attacks broke down and Kildares defence broke out. There were five Kildare men in a row streaming out of the defence while Joe Sheridan, Shane O rourke and Steven Bray stood there looking at them with their hands on their hips. You can generally carry one, maybe 2 of these type of players but not four or five which is what we have at the moment. We have the players on the panel, Shane McInerney, Peader Byrne and Ollie Lewis that can do the tracking back as well as chipping in with the odd score. I think our management have a very dated perspective on what makes an AI winning team. We'd all love to go back to the days when the team with the best players won the AI, but thats not going to happen. I for one would prefer to win ugly than not at all.
