Similar GAA And Soccer Calendar Years - 5 Like(s)
Replying To Timmy86: "Hopefully it'll bury soccer in rural areas ,the dual players ,doesn't need soccer on during the summer aswell and the rugby will b laughing as they l have the lads all to themselves" Why would you want to bury soccer?
My local GAA club work with the local soccer club at the start of each season for each age group.
For example I'm over the U12 soccer team and help out with the GAA U12s, The soccer lads train Mon and Weds and Gaelic lads Tues and Friday. This happens across all age groups
One of the local GAA clubs here in Dundalk even had a local soccer tournament on their pitches recently (7 a side with over 48 teams) as the local soccer club to them hadn't the space to hold a tournament of it's size on it's on so they used both venues
This idea that GAA and soccer needs to compete with each other is absolute nonsense

Derrys County Centre Of Excellence Owenbeg To Be Used By Derry City Soccer Club - 5 Like(s)
Replying To tomsmith: "Tomsmith here
I just wonder what the views of the Northern Irish posters ( Particularly Ulsterman ) are in relation to Derry City LOI Club availing of the facilities of training at Owenbeg . I see a lad from C lones who plays for Derry city in an article in the Sunday Indo is very joyous with the arrangement where the soccer chaps who are paid professional train during the day in Derrys Gaa centre of excellence the Gaelic fellow who work come to train in the evenings.
I wonder do other GAA clubs offer ones grounds to a soccer Club, or what is the views on such arrangement .
It would be interesting to hear the views of the people in power on this thorny issue" How is it a thorny issue?
I'm sure Derry FC are paying for it, and a fantastic facility is getting used and the GAA in Derry are making a few quid for it. Win win all round

Replying To BarneyGrant: "Would make for an interesting last game if Dublin don't beat Meath. They will raise their game against Dublin. They will have too or they could be relegated so that will be tough one as well but can't see them beating Dublin if Dublin put out a team needing to win." If Dublin beat Meath they go 10 points
If Louth beat Cork we go to 8 points
Dosnt matter if you win or not, Louth beat Cork we have a chance promotion last game

Player Opt Outs For 2020 Inter County Season - 3 Like(s)
Replying To TheUsername: "I know much of the headlines goes on players heading off to the AFL, but no body seems to speaking about the flood of players leaving the county game for a better offer both allegedly financially and lifestyle wise in the USA in recent years. Its been an issue for most counties, up to and including Dublin in recent years.
Its a real risk to the inter county game and seems to be happening in ever increasing numbers as this thread illustrates, i dont know exactly why all the lads mentioned are electing of the panel, but its seems a growing trend as does a lot said opting out players turning up to play in the USA in the summer months.
You can only see this increasing with tier 2, interesting times ahead......." " I dont know exactly why all the lads mentioned are electing of the panel "
Training or gym or team meetings 5/6 nights a week. Every weekend taken up for training, games etc during summer (until your out), not allowed talk media, not allowed have a pint with your mates
Yeh I cant see any reason myself

Why are people saying hows this allowed happen? What do you want to happen for it to be stopped? Only way it can ever be stopped is by going Professional (which will never happen)
Young fellas have a life outside of football. Best of luck to Derek in America, hope he has a great time.

Underage Soccer Season in Dundalk, starts this month
At least 1 game every week for players upto Sept/October.
Every game at same time on a Sat or Sun upto summer months when their will be evening games.
Rugby teams have a game every week from Sept-April
GAA Minor League starts this weekend, majority teams will play 7 games.
Dont know what will happen after the league is finished regarding games during summer
Champ will start end July and prob take 3 months, teams will play about 5 games.
Until this is resolved, soccer and rugby will be more successful getting underage players.

Replying To Yondu: "The intensity of Div 2 and 1 games is chalk and cheese. More bad habits are developed in Div 2 with a mediocre Leinster championship to play Dublin should be thankful they are getting a 2nd game against Derry." Another game V Derry? Don't count them chickens just yet

Replying To pretender: "Kelly knew when to get out. His aim was to win division 4 and 3 which is possible if the team is fitter and more organised than everyone else. He will do the same with Westmeath and will leave. Some counties should concentrate on the league as they have no hope with the championship, Meath included" P Reilly was never be good enough for Inter County, Not even a stand out with the Brides!
Bryne, has the ego for County Football not the ability!, no loss if he left the squad after been dropped (after 2 terrible performances)
McKeever is a strange one, has potential and does not seem the type of fella to throw his toys out of the pram

Replying To eoinog: "The stands of football in Leinster is very poor. Definitely the weakest province. Only one team in Division 1 so that tells it's own story. A lot more would need to retire before Dublin would fall to the standard of the chasing pack." Only for Louths injury's last year I think we could have beat Donegal last year in the 1/4 final. We have a 2 or 3 lads back who were travelling last year who probably will start and 1 who missed the whole of last season who has been playing excellent for his club who are still going in Leinster.
I don't think we will beat the Dubs but bar Dublin and Kerry, I think we will be able to beat any time in Ireland next season

U20 Championships - 2 Like(s)
That's 2 years in a row Louth have beat Dublin at U-20. Can't be a bad thing
Getting over the line next week would be massive for Louth
As the manager said on the radio this morning the more and more our senior, minor and 20 teams keep getting to semi and finals, eventually one will get over the line and hopefully that will be the start of plenty of trophies as the work gone in underage is incredible and now with Gavin Delvin the main man overseeing everything it can only be a good thing
I will never forget 2010 and my now passed away grandad crying in Croke Park at the end. I really hope I can be in Croke Park with my young fella when we win a Leinster title at senior level even if it only happens once

Meath 2024 - 2 Like(s)
Replying To Selwyn: "I work with one of the Louth players, he was saying they were missing a fair few. Particularly in the forwards. Obviously Mulroy being one of the standout ones." Yeh we were missing 7 or 8 who will def start when fit.
In saying that Meath were far stronger, fitter and more skillful all over the pitch. Was men against boys apart from a spell when you had the man off on the black card at end of first half.
Not overly worried as I'm told alot players missing are not injured and it was just giving lads a chance

Had a weekend with the family booked this weekend, cancelled it a few weeks back when fixtures were made, now this!
Fuming is not the word.
I've told my manager and teammates, that's me done with GAA. I'm going to play Soccer in the Dundalk Summer League, a game a week and fixtures out in April for whole summer.
I'm not putting up with this! I know a few from different clubs around town who said the same.

Replying To BarneyGrant: "Dublin will need something from the Navan game now, otherwise you'd fancy Cork to win their next two - Louth away and with Derry at home in a meaningless game for them on the last day. Although Louth seem to be flying so not going to rule them out for a place either." If we beat Cork, we will be going to Croker with a chance of promotion

Louth'S Most Consistent Senior Clubs - 1 Like(s)
Replying To Itsme: "This sounds very familiar to Sean O Mahonys 2016 who signed players from Dundalk Young Irelands. What's the difference?
Dundalk Gaels who reached a final last year they also had quite a few transfers in recent years. Again, what is the difference?
Do you want to go the road of investing huge money into managers?" The difference is the Blues have done it for years and have ruined other clubs in Drogheda as a result.
FYI only one non Gaels underage player started the final last year Barry Watters, and hes a guard from a different county working in town
