Tomsmith Intends To Retire From Intercounty Posting On Hoganstand - 6 Like(s)
Replying To tomsmith: "Tomsmith here
Boxty eater from County Leitrin
Lord Kilbracken from over beside you in Killygar used the word Odious in the House of Lords and it caused concern to the translators who did not understand his west Cavan country accent . But back to your suggestion about equal funding for all Counties I am sure Barney aye Barney Grant would not agree with you on that one" This routine is really tedious now, go out for a walk, take up a hobby, you'll feel much better for it.

Atrocious Playing Conditions. - 4 Like(s)
Replying To Gaa Fan: "I watched a number of games which were played in Munster last Weekend. The playing conditions were atrocious.
Downpours and gale force winds. In Kerry I saw David Clifford unable to score a point from play. In another game I saw a player unable to kick the ball over from the 20 metre line. In the Cork hurling final it was difficult to make out the players at times.
It is obvious the County Boards have no respect for the players, or their safety, or for the supporters.
I commend the players for their behavior under such trying conditions.
Shame on the GAA." I agree, with the money in the GAA and county boards these days to think no one in charge has the foresight to put a roof over the West Coast from Oct to March is embarrassing.

I remember watching a minor final in Birmingham at Páirc na hÉireann a few years ago, a bloke getting the anthem up on You Tube on his phone and handing it over to yer man for him to hold it up to the microphone, it played a 20 sec ad at the start.

Replying To Breffni40: "Every one of us has been referred to as "they" thousands of times. Yet now if you ask to be referred to as they its's woke madness? People have reasons to be uncomfortable being referred to as he or she and I personally don't understand why people would be so rude/cruel to insist on doing it. Trans people live a tough life by all accounts and metrics, I'm not here to add to their suffering. Some people revel in it.
There are different gender roles in many different cultures today and all through history. Each to their own. Trans rights are human rights." Fair enough but this thing of people adding he/him to their email signatures and some employers expecting everyone to do the same is a type of social engineering, although very slight.
More and more suppliers I deal with at work have started this, a bald fella with a beard having to add he/him to make a minuscule amount of people feel more comfortable is demeaning nonsense in my opinion.

Who Are Going To Be Euro 2024 Champions ? - 2 Like(s)
Replying To Galway9801: "That's not really a fair comparison though.
For example, if I as a galwayman hated the mayo county team, yet only followed mayo club football while ignoring my own counties club football, that would be a more accurate comparison. That's before we even get into the fact that alot of these ABEs who wave the tricolor hate the GAA, the Irish language, Irish music etc. and most other aspects of irish culture. It's all very silly tbh." None of it is a fair comparison, btw some massive generalisations being thrown around there about the ABE brigade .
I was born and bred in England, I thought Spain winning on Sunday was hilarious, the arrogance of the fans, pundits and press is hilarious, they are dumbfounded by the fact they don't win every game. When Iceland beat England in 2016, the Welsh national team jumped up and down, a fair few of whom were born in England, so do they all hate Welsh culture, language and Tom Jones?
Tying yourself up in knots to prove how morally superior you are because ain't worth the effort, it's just sport and a bit of banter.

2021 Congress - Ban On Joint Captains Receiving Trophy - 1 Like(s)
Who decided this needed raising?
Did someone from New York announce that if they saw one more presentation with two people lift a trophy they would burn down the clubhouse?
And then the clowns actually voted in favour of it.
Here's an idea, leave the bloody laws of the games alone for 20 years and concentrate on spreading the finances and marketing instead of this pedantic guff.

Replying To SaffronDon: "You might be getting a bit carried away with dressing up as Phil Mitchel for EastEnders being the same as a supporter buying a jersey or polo of their favourite team but whatever you need to tell yourself. Again if people use 'we' or 'us' maybe it's to do with the interest they show in whatever sport that may be. Just because you don't show the same interest in soccer doesn't mean everyone has to live like you. Thankfully everyone has a right to follow who they want and however dedicated they decide to be to that team.
I do agree that money is ruining the sport and measures to prevent footballing monopolies are filled with tiresome loopholes. I think VAR is becoming a joke of a law besides for offsides and goal line calls it causes too many unnecessary stops to a flowing game. But that aside it's still the most followed sport in the world so I'd say that speaks louder than your own personal opinion." I'll stay quiet, last thing you need on a messageboard is opinions.

What do people get from "supporting" a team they have no connection to other than I led them when I was kid.
I support Luton Town because I was born and brought up there, I work with 2 Brummies who are all big Villa fans and a Blackburn fan from Blackburn.
Me supporting Chelsea, Utd or Liverpool is the same as buying a Rolling Stones album and saying I'm in the band, or buying a Google scarf.
Funny to think that 15/16 year olds have no memory of utd ever being successful.

Replying To Lockjaw: "This is it. I see lots of football journalists clutching their pearls and almost chastising Newcastle fans for continuing to support their club. The Tory government bend over backwards to do business with Saudi Arabia. Aren't we all a small bit complicit in enabling the Saudi regime with our consumption of their oil?" Mental gymnastics at its finest from most people when it comes to football club ownership. Premier league clubs and a fair chunk of Championship clubs out side of maybe Luton, Brentford and Brighton are run by faceless corporate entities, who have no connection to the locales or communities that support them.
It will be a long time before clubs are owned by supporters or locals again, thank God they have the fit and proper persons test in place though otherwise West Ham could be owned by a family of porn barons.

Replying To Pope_Benedict: "They'll need to abolish set scrums to get Americans to watch rugby. The average yank won't tolerate 2mins being consumed off the clock to set and reset every single scrum. Perhaps a system of going for commercial break at scrumtime could be considered?" If they watch American football for 5 hours where nothing ever happens, surely they can put up with a scrum.
