Longford Championship 2019 - 1 Like(s)

Replying To arcadia:  "Interesting yes IF the QF's are not open draw. Has to be some value and knock-on impact to group performance, otherwise interest in the later group games will diminish further. Also shouldn't group you are in be dictated by performance in previous years league. Has the benefit of keeping top teams apart during group stages and introduces an incentive for ACFL which is sorely missing. That would be a very simple change to make when going to a two-group system."
Quarter-finals would be 2nd and 3rd in each group against each other, with winners playing group winners in semi-finals. Bottom team in each group would play off for relegation to Intermediate.

Replying To arcadia:  "Does anyone actually know why Granard and Rathcline were allowed to stay in Senior this year? I have no recall of that decision being made or publicised. Did I miss that or was there no prior notice? 10 senior cship teams is more than enough. In fact 3 groups of 3 would be wholly sufficient."
Granard and Rathcline whinged about the fact that they were relegated on score difference from a three team group last year. The County Executive voted by what might be politely described as a narrow margin to keep the number of teams at 12 for this year and organize the championship on the basis of... three-team groups. The clubs had no input in the decision.

Perhaps if people spent the same time reading it as they have making comments on this discussion forum then they might understand that the killoe club did not protect the unit, its hard to see how they can enter any forum to try and sort this out. Only two full members can represent any club and at the moment memberships are suspended. 7.5 (e) Suspension for all other Infractions provided for in Rule or County Bye-Laws means Suspension from all functions, privileges and Competitions under the Association's control, but not from membership of the Association." Are you not contradicting yourself there, Derek?

Replying To slasher9:  "It looks like killoe bought into there own hype. I got a screenshot this morning of an interview from a few weeks ago where a player was talking about playing club football in December which implys an all Ireland final. Im sure this made it too a few mullinlaghta and Mostrim phones too. You think about the next game only in this sport otherwise you get caught"
Ah, to be fair if Mostrim or Mullinalaghta were to get beyond the first round in Leinster the Leader Cup might be pushed back into December - I'm sure that's what he meant. Some story for Mostrim to come back from the unmerciful hammering they got in the 2020 semi-final they got two months ago to be 60 minutes away from a county title. Mullinalaghta surely shouldn't underestimate them in the way that first Kiloe and then Colmcille did.

Replying To Spinx:  "Sick to see Mullinalaghta win. They'll be as hard listened to as the Killoes for the next 12 months."
I'm sure any good doctor will give you a prescription for it.

Replying To liosbreac6265:  "This is not correct. There was confusion last year because some counties opted to have their own method in their bye laws rather than follow the national guidelines. Look at the Longford GAA website, we have our own bye laws for determining standings in the event of three or more teams finishing level. This year's Leinster and Munster hurling championships would have been decided in a different manner to each other had this situation arisen"
If you go back to page 141 of this thread and look at this post from before the weekend, it quotes the National Code for this year 2024, which says that counties can use either those rules or define their own, which Longford has done. I don't see where the talk of a replay has come from - this is a case of an incorrectly-tallied score by the referee in a group stage game (i.e. any individual game counts for the same in terms of points and qualification as any other) and there can only be two outcomes: 1. the referee's score is corrected 2. the referee's score stands with either Dromard or Carrickedmond going through in each situation. Mullinalaghta qualify under either scenario, and the notion that, having already been disadvantaged by having a non-existent point given against them, they should then be further disadvantaged by having that guaranteed qualification put in jeopardy through a replay of a match that has already been played in full, is for the birds. The circumstances of the Kildare game last month where there was a replay were entirely different (a winner-on-the-day match that was not completed as it should have been because of an incorrect score forestalling extra time being played). And I suspect that hypotheticals about "if only we'd known" will not carry much weight in an appeals process; there's no guarantee, speaking from bitter experience, that going for a goal rather than a point will yield either.
