I see the management of the Cavan County Board are putting forward a motion at their A.G.M not to enter a senior hurling team in any competition in 2011, a money saver or a plan to get rid of hurling from the county altogether?? conorshill (Cavan) - Posts: 7 - 09/12/2010 16:24:01 830302 Link 0 |
Plan to get rid altogether but using the excuse of saving money to do it I'd say...Strange plan seeing as the county has been represented by at least 4 players in the International series against Scotland...talent is there... The_Casual (Cavan) - Posts: 8 - 09/12/2010 16:48:16 830328 Link 0 |

well done to cavan co board. first they got rid of hurling board then hurling development officer sheridans and now team. Its no wonder cavan gaa is in the state its in. the gaelic athletic association was founded to promote and nurture irish games. hurler40 (Cavan) - Posts: 450 - 11/12/2010 17:33:11 831322 Link 0 |
It's sad to see hurling go if that is indeed the case, but was it just window dressing, were we flogging a dead horse. Or should we have put more effort into it, I never saw a hurling club or County game in Cavan in my life I would say there are many like me, so who was playing or participating or watching? ochonlir (Cavan) - Posts: 4343 - 11/12/2010 18:08:25 831342 Link 0 |
Well hurler40 here is your chance to stand up to be counted; there is a meeting in the hotel Kilmore at 1800hrs tonight Sunday the 12th December 2010. The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4602 - 12/12/2010 09:10:38 831474 Link 0 |
i take ure point sean but u are missing the point .its our responsibility as members of our association to keep hurling alive and to increase its profile in weaker counties.we need the outside players to boost the others.financial reasons are no reason to disband our team.look at the millions that has being wasted in cavan down years on sub standard football managers and their coaches physios etc plus meals after training which hurlers never got.u can argue that we are a football county but we are an ASSOCIATION whose ethos is to foster and promote our national game.this episode will do county board no favours nationwide when the dublin media kicks in.this will turn spotlight on to footballers and increase pressure on them as we move towards total football in county. hurler40 (Cavan) - Posts: 450 - 12/12/2010 13:56:24 831542 Link 0 |
I see that the Cork man is back. P Neary would make a great manager of the Cavan Senior Hurling team. thefacts (Cavan) - Posts: 21 - 12/12/2010 16:39:48 831595 Link 0 |
county board cant use saving money as excuse to get rid of the hurling team, i played with the hurlers last year and allright we got our travel expensis but never got food after training and only got half the gear the footballers (u16,minors,u21,seniors,) got 001 (Cavan) - Posts: 1 - 12/12/2010 17:38:52 831622 Link 0 |
if the kilkenny footballers can stay in the league then so can the cavan hurlers!would be a disgrace if yous were made pull out of it.altho results do speak for themselves ive played against cavan and they arent that far of it.players should bring this to GPA and report county board.if this is put to a motion in cavan yous would no the out come already, they will vote for rubbishing the county team.something has to be done at higher levels before its put to clubs aballs (Monaghan) - Posts: 66 - 13/12/2010 19:48:21 832275 Link 0 |
very few hurling clubs in cavan ..saw cavan play a challange game in cork against a na piarsaigh club junior b team and get well beaten...this was when john hunt was in charge...no real set up for hurling in cavan there should be a real effort put in with kids and start from there...but agree should not pull team out of games cavanrebel (Cavan) - Posts: 37 - 15/12/2010 18:51:03 833575 Link 0 |
I think it's a good idea, develop the sport at underage then develop a County team that is somewhat competetive. How is the current setup helping, it isn't its probably putting youngsters off. ochonlir (Cavan) - Posts: 4343 - 15/12/2010 19:19:51 833598 Link 0 |
how can u build a team when even the hurling development coach was let go? this is all about money or lack of it. hurler40 (Cavan) - Posts: 450 - 15/12/2010 21:49:53 833704 Link 0 |
Anyone remember when you were underage and the old CB codger presenting the trophy would always comment that 'it's the taking part that counts'. Sounds like buzzwoll**ks now doesn't it? The irony is that our footballers are also the worst team in Ulster, so it's a bit rich axing the Snr hurling team. You don't see the hurlers strutting around the pubs of Cavan either no matter what some of the clowns on this foirum have been spoutting. They should be commended for their commitment to a sport where their county gives them no thanks or support. It's primarily a money issue no matter how the CB dress it up and that stinks a bit. i see we are still waiting for wishful thinkin to reply, all cavan clubs should fight this disgracful suggestion to get rid of our national game. firsttime (Donegal) - Posts: 125 - 16/12/2010 11:33:45 833785 Link 0 |
hurling in cavan is a joke.there is as much money put into hurling in cavan as there is football and they are going nowhere.when i was u16 a bus was sent around to collect the players in the mullahoran, gowna ballymahugh area and you get a few from gowna none from ballymahugh and the mullahorans turned up the odd time. we had to play supports for some games and once played a 22 year old and still only won 1 game out of 10. hoy (Cavan) - Posts: 307 - 16/12/2010 11:52:31 833804 Link 0 |
hoy- you say that there is as much money put into hurling as there is football. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard here. There is no money for hurling in cavan full stop. A little bit of investment wisely structured would reap rewards in the long term, but there is nothing there at the moment. breffni666 (Cavan) - Posts: 294 - 16/12/2010 18:12:56 834125 Link 0 |
but investing in the youth is the way forward not flogging the senior team to death, I'm sure the players will agree when they get over the initial shock of the proposal and see sense. ochonlir (Cavan) - Posts: 4343 - 16/12/2010 19:09:33 834161 Link 0 |
