Replying To ExiledInWex:  "What was the outcome? I saw that footballer fellow Redmond Barry complaining on social media but his own goalkeepers hurls were in an identical place in the goal."
Footballer fellow lol if the county had 60 men like Red Barry we would be winning Leinster titles every year. The same Red Barry who played a NFL Division 1 Semi Final v Tyrone and NHL Division 1 v Kilkenny the same day for his county.

Replying To galwayford:  "manager of the year- Jim Gavin, totally deserved. Team of the year: Dubs, well deserved. Hockey team got hockied in the final. But well done to them for getting there."
Dublin footballers fantastic team but they won an Irish competition and they have won the same competition for the past three years so nothing really impressive there. Irish women's hockey team came from no where to be the second best team in the WORLD.

Some GAA nights like this can be a cringe fest however this was damn near perfection. A fantastic line up of guests, Liam Spratt did a brilliant job as MC, he knows the sporting scene in the county inside out. Matty Forde is simply the best GAA star the county has produced in my life time and will be talked about in 50-100 years time.

Laois are useless it'll be the same next week v Westmeath two teams way off the pace. A four horse race for three qualifying spots. Scoring difference should be done away with in this group

Shambolic coverage of the championships its a pity there is not another station in the country who could put it up to RTE for GAA. The sooner the better Virgin Media get a share of the GAA pie. If you want to watch football we may get up off ours arses and go out to the games. Because all we will see on RTE is 30 seconds of most games in the highlights show where grown men are shown talking rot more than showing clips from games that were not shown live.

Replying To royaldunne:  "Can't wait. First up Wexford or Wicklow. Then most likely Kildare and then Dublin. It's 2020. Anything can happen. And I hope to see a Leinster title in Meath this year."
It'll be tough on Meath losing their first game to Wexford in Wexford Park or Wicklow in Aughrim theres always 2021 for the royal county.

Turlough O'Brien be far better off knuckling down to the job in hand for Carlow this season and get on with things rather than this non stop criticism of the rules. At the end of the day the rules will be the same for both teams in every game so he best prepare his team to win football matches with the rules of the day.

Playing Games In December. - 1 Like(s)

Replying To perfect10:  "so let me get this straight, you think the off season for the club player is october to march, yet every club back training 1st january? and the county player off season is during the club championship,do they not play in those games?last time i looked at a county final in wexford in am sure i saw conor mcdonald and rory o connor and all playing."
Well my club certainly does not go back training until mid to late February. We have been off since the October. County players training load drops back a lot during club time of the year so technically its there off season. Normally the Wexford hurlers head off for a holiday during the club championships as well. Every player club or county will get at least 3-4 weeks of doing completely nothing unless your club wins the county final and ends up on a good run in the provincial championships. At that stage its not hard training its only maintenance of the fitness built up during the season. Once the county teams start back training the quicker the games start the better to lesson the amount of slogging around mud baths. If you were a Wexford footballer tomorrow would you prefer to train for two hours in ferns or play a competitive match in New Ross v Laois.

They are the truth though if we lose to Carlow or Westmeath, the whole team and management should be put out on gardening leave for a few years. Carlow and Westmeath with the greatest respect to them are in the McDonagh Cup to win it. Your season defining moment for them is to win that competition. If you lose it your on the beer for probably two days afterwards, you might train once in that week and then face a fresh Wexford side smarting from a 1 point defeat to Kilkenny in Nowlan Park.

Diarmuid Devereux the man who backed Martin Storey et al during their term over the minors despite several times hurting the minor football. No surprise with Devereux running for local election to pull this stunt. Liam fardy a gentleman but he should start closer to home what is his club doing for football. Neither Liam Fardy or Diarmuid Devereux attended the football forum organized by Wexford county board last year so this is a political stunt with Fardy the pawn for Devereux

A Free To Save Your Life - 1 Like(s)

Replying To Pikeman96:  "I'm old enough to remember a good bit more of Holohan's career than just that. But not quite old enough to remember all of it! Only thing I'd say on the question here though is that while he was one hell of a free-taker all right, knocking over a 65 in those days was nowhere near as common as it is now. So if there really was a 65 to save my life, I'd probably go for somebody from more recent times. Don't know exactly who, though!"
I'd go for Jimmy Holohan with a big hurl from the modern era with the lighter sliothars. He put over a free in New Ross one day from just outside his own 21 against Galway, if memory serves me right it put us through to the league semi-finals.

Hand Pass Rule Common Sense Prevails - 1 Like(s)
Wexford made a total of 35 handpasses in succession in a 3 minute period of holding possession against Antrim last Sunday in Wexford Park. If the handpass rule had stood they would have had to kick the ball 11 times in that period. Wexford were three points in front Antrim were defending deep Wexford went from the Antrim 21 the whole way back to their goalkeeper twice during the passage of play. Absolute puke football to watch.

Replying To perfect10:  "well done to all involved.is this the leinster championship which 4 teams including Cavan play in?not belittling the achievement, but hardly one to get too carried away with. for me,it is like an intermediate hurling championship.pointless."
It's the seven team competition six from Leinster and Cavan. The idea of it is to give young wexford players a taste of county action. Look how many players stepped up from last years junior to this years senior panel so it has to be worth it in my opinion. It gives senior panelists game time and they are not after training all winter long with the seniors to end up just being unused subs for the senior team. It's not going to be talked about from the roof tops but any win is a bonus well done to all involved and lets hope they can win the all ireland this year too.

New York Exhibition Tournament - 1 Like(s)

Replying To Deisewexican:  "Just looking to get posters views of the forthcoming inter county exhibition hurling tournament in New York involving Wexford, Limerick, Kilkenny and Tipperary. Personally I think it's a pointless exercise from a hurling point of view with needless injury risks to players as happened to Damien Reck last year. The trip itself I imagine would be a welcome change of scenery for the players but with hardly a break in playing throughout the year for some of them do they really need to be clocking up more mileage on the pitch for something like this?. Another junket for the Croke Park big wigs or something more meaningful?, what do you think?"
Positives - Player Team Bonding, Fundraising for the Team and County Board, give the Irish in New York a chance to see GAA Negatives - Ridiculous Rules, Soccer Goals, Goals only, Players have a chance to settle an old score with a dirty dig, GPA use it as fundraising and back slapping for themselves. I personally won't be watching it, haven't watched it since the row between Galway and Dublin a few years ago. A shambolic waste of time. For me it would be far better to bring a proper league game to New York/Dubai/Sydney each year. Every team gets a chance on a rotation basis to play the overseas game. Football and Hurling.
