Antrim picked up their first win in Division 1B of the Allianz Hurling League this afternoon after seeing off Carlow by 0-25 to 0-12 at Corrigan Park.
Davy Fitzgerald’s side dominated in the second-half to earn the sorely needed victory which now sees them sitting on two points in the table along with the Barrowsiders and Kildare.
After having edged a 0-10 to 0-9 lead at the end of the first-half, the Glensmen pulled seven points clear with the help of points from Seaan Elliott, James McNaughton and Keelan Molloy.
The points of Marty Kavanagh and Kevin McDonald kept the visitors in the contest, but Antrim finished out strong with answered scores from McNaughton, Elliott, Ruairi Donaghy and Eoin O’Neill to put a firm seal on the vital win.
In Division 2, Meath came from eight points down at half-time to defeat Derry by 1-20 to 1-18 in Trim for their second win of the campaign.
Sean Kelly struck Derry’s goal from the penalty spot in the first-half and they led for the majority of the second-half until marksman Tom Shine eventually brought the Royals level and two late frees from ‘keeper Gavin King would prove the difference in the end for the hosts.
Westmeath also got their second win of the Division 2 campaign by defeating London on a 3-22 to 0-20 scoreline in Ruislip.
Goals from Eamonn Cunneen and Dean Ennis helped the Lake men towards a commanding 2-14 to 0-7 lead at half-time before Ennis grabbed his second in the opening minute of the restart to put his side on the path to a comfortable victory.
