Armagh's Paddy McAteer has been awarded a full scholarship to play American football with Troy University in Alabama.
The Mullaghbawn clubman, who has played in goals for the Orchard County, will be a placekicker for the Troy Trojans after impressing at a trial in Ohio. The opportunity arose after he linked up with Tadhg Leader, who was instrumental in securing Charlie Smyth's dream move to the New Orleans Saints earlier this year. By coincidence, McAteer and Smyth are both past-pupils of St Colman's College in Newry.
In April, former Derry underage star Jude McAtamney joined Smyth in the NFL when he signed for the New York Giants as an UDFA (Undrafted Free Agent).
