Liam Sheedy has called Limerick's discipline into question after an explosive Munster SHC opener against Waterford.

The four-in-row chasing All-Ireland champions had Gearoid Hegarty sent off along with a Waterford mentor midway through the second half, while Seamus Flanagan and Barry Nash also sailed closed to the wind at FBD Semple Stadium.

Commenting on the first half flashpoint involving Flanagan and opponent Stephen Bennett, the two-time Tipperary All-Ireland winning manager said on RTÉ:  "He's a very lucky man. But too often he tends to use his body, and hits it off the wrong part of the opponent.

"It was high into the face. I don't know if it wasn't seen, but there was no action taken on this tackle. He leads with his shoulder into the face, and he follows through with the elbow."

On Hegarty's two yellow cards, Sheedy said: "He can't have any complaints. It's something I have been highlighting for quite a while, this Limerick team have got to learn to behave themselves when the match is in the melting pot.

"There was no need for the tackle. It was reckless.

"He didn't need to go there. The ball was gone clear over the line when he made the tackle, he doesn't need to go in there to attract the contact."
