Wexford GAA has got behind a fundraising drive for one of its promising young stars who suddenly took ill 14 days ago.

20-year-old Ciaran Kavanagh - who is a member of the Wexford senior football squad - presented to Wexford General Hospital feeling unwell on Saturday, 22 August and within hours was transferred to Dublin and placed into an induced coma in ICU.

It was discovered Ciaran had liver failure and miraculously underwent a liver transplant on the same night that he was diagnosed with the life-threatening condition.

Ciaran came out of his operation in a coma and within three days he started to improve as his body was accepting the liver.

However, as a result of the operation, Ciaran has lost the sight in one eye and will require ongoing kidney dialysis.

The HWH Bunclody clubman has a long road to recovery ahead of him and his local community has set up a GoFundMe campaign to support him.

'Ciaran's Journey to Recovery' was launched yesterday and over €38,000 has been raised so far.
