Burke, Padraic

A member of a great Ringtown hurling family, Padraic passed away following a long illness on June 10th. He is fondly remembered for the leading roles he played in Ringtown's senior championship wins of 1980 and '87. Padraic first came to prominence as centre back on the Ringtown team that defeated Brownstown to claim U21 championship honours in 1977 and retired exactly 20 years later after Ringtown's intermediate final victory over Turin. Padraic also won a junior championship medal at the beginning of his career in 1974.

Padraic played all of his hurling in the full back and half back lines. He was as sticky as they come and rarely gave his man an inch. Involved in the motor trade for most of his life, he was one of Ringtown's most committed and respected members.
