Barney, late of Boggagh, Moate, was an avid Castledaly and Westmeath supporter who contributed greatly to the local community. Husband to Mary and father to Bernice, Patrice and Mary, he died after a short illness on November 5.

Players and members of Castledaly GAA club formed a guard of honour at his removal to the local St. Ciaran's Church. A panel beater by trade, Barney's coffin was appropriately draped with Castledaly and Westmeath jerseys.
