There was sadness at the passing of Tom Maher, Grange Heights, Mullingar and formerly of Ballysallagh, Ballynacargy at the age of 75 on November 1. One of 12 children born to John and Margaret Maher, he was a retired builder who was devoted to his wife of over 50 years, Ollie, and their sons Thomas and Jimmy, and daughter Angie.

Tom first played football in Ballynacargy National School and is remembered as being a capable half back who played with no fear. He maintained a keen interest in Ballynacargy GAA down the years and was known to take his grandson Jack on visits to Moynihan Park where they enjoyed a kick-around.
