Former Ringtown hurler Michael McCormack of Monilea and formerly of Gartlandstown passed away on Saturday, July 16th, 2016. He first pulled on the Ringtown jersey in 1981 when underage hurling was starting in the club and went on to represent Ringtown with distinction from U12 level right through to minor and then senior. He was an integral part of Ringtown's vibrant and thriving underage section alongside his brother, Pat, while their late mother, Betty, was one of the driving forces behind juvenile matters in the club at the time. As full back, Michael collected an U16 'B' championship medal in 1984, followed by a senior medal in 1987. It was a blow to the club when he departed for Canada and Michael wasted no time in winning a Toronto championship medal with Toronto Gaels in 1988. He lined out for the local club again in 2000 after returning to Ireland and was more recently involved as a coach with the Clonkill club, where sons James and Sean played. For Michael's removal to Taughmon Church, both Ringtown and Clonkill GAA Clubs provided Guards of Honour and jerseys of each club were placed on the coffin.
