Sadness and shock quickly spread across Athlone, South Westmeath and further afield when news emerged of the sudden passing on Sunday, December 17th of Eileen Walker (née Sammon), Brittas, Glasson, Athlone. Eileen and her family have a very long association with the GAA and Tubberclair GAA Club paid tribute to her, pointing out that she "lived for this club and the community at large". Eileen, the wife of former Tubberclair and Westmeath footballer Gerry Walker, was a former committee member of Garrycastle ladies club and was part of the management team for the 2004 All-Ireland Feile side. She was a hard worker at committee level and invested great passion and energy into providing encouragement and support to the girls from the sideline. Eileen will be fondly remembered by all those who knew her.
