Ross, John


John 'Johnny' Ross from Grangecon, County Wicklow and formerly Mullingar died on Tuesday, September 12th, 2017 following an accident at his home. In 1966, Johnny was a member of the Mullingar Shamrocks team that won the Westmeath minor football championship as well as a senior panellist on the club's SFC-winning team that same year. He also featured on the St Finian's panel that took on St Jarlath's of Tuam in the All-Ireland Colleges final. Johnny represented the Shamrocks for many years and was club captain during his last season with the town club. He also lined out with Mullingar, UCD and Lansdowne in rugby and was a formidable athlete as well. After moving to Wicklow, he took up gaelic football again and won a Wicklow intermediate championship with Stratford-on-Slaney in 1983. Co-founder of Ross & Hayes Solicitors on Dublin's Baggot Street in 1985, John Ross was also a former vice-chairman of Punchestown Racecourse.
