Kerry secured their fifth successive Munster U20 football championship title by defeating Cork (3-14 to 0-20) at Austin Stack Park last night.

Having fallen 0-8 to 0-1 behind to their neighbours at the Tralee venue, Tomás Ó Sé’s lads were lifted by a Paddy Lane goal in the 15th minute and hit the next four points unanswered, including two from Tomás Kennedy, to move in front.

Marksman Sean Coakley levelled for the Rebels ahead of Lane sending over a point at the other end and Gearoid White grabbing the holders’ second goal, sending them in with a 2-7 to 0-9 advantage at the break.

Lane and White shot points that increased the Kerry lead to half a dozen within three minutes of the resumption and skipper Lane would find the Leesiders’ net again in the 42nd minute.

Coakley and Rickey Barrett pulled back Cork points ahead of ‘keeper Billy Curtin sailing over back-to-back two-point frees which made it 3-11 to 0-18 with 10 minutes to go.

Coakley and Ronan Carroll exchanged points after that and late points from White (free) and Lane, who finished with 2-4, would seal a fifth straight provincial crown for the Kingdom.
