Armagh, Cavan and Fermanagh have been sanctioned after it emerged that all three teams fielded Sigerson Cup listed players in their midweek outings in the Dr McKenna Cup.

Fermanagh defeated Cavan by 1-12 to 1-10 in Tempo on Wednesday night, but the result has since been declared null and void after it was confirmed that each side played ineligible players in the game.

The same night saw Kieran McGeeney’s Armagh side record a 3-10 to 0-10 victory over Down at the Box-It Athletic Grounds, however that result has been reversed after the Orchard men fielded an ineligible player with their Mourne counterparts being awarded the points instead.

Ulster GAA posted the following on social media yesterday (Friday) to confirm the sanctions:

“Following a meeting of Ulster CCC, reported breaches of Pre-Season 3rd Level Policy & Regulations were reviewed, and the following decisions taken in relation to the fielding of ineligible players:

“The Fermanagh v Cavan game is null and void and no team is awarded the points. The Armagh v Down game is awarded to Down.”

Tomorrow afternoon sees three more games down for decision in the Ulster pre-season competition at 1.30pm, with Tyrone hosting Down in Pomeroy, Monaghan welcoming Fermanagh to Castleblayney and Antrim taking on Donegal in Cargin.
