U14 HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 3 FINAL

CULLION............6.08

ST BRIGIDS........4.06

The St Mary's Rochfortbridge GFC grounds was the match venue for the playing of the Division 3 Hurling League final in beautiful weather conditions on Wednesday evening June 18th.

Played on a super playing surface, the first half of this Division 3 U14 HL decider witnessed scores very much at a premium, St Brigids 1.03 Cullion 0.05 the match scoreline at half time. Cullion though did hit nine wides during the course of the first half. Inside the opening seven minutes of the second half, St Brigids struck for two further goals leaving the Saffrons ahead of the Maroons on a 3.04 to 0.05 scoreline.

The spectre of those nine aforementioned first half wides now started to look as if they would prehaps come back to haunt Cullion at this moment of play in the second half. The 12 minutes pattern of play though that then prevailed from the 7th to the 19th minutes resulted in Cullion scoring five goals and two points without any reply from St Brigids. Thus Cullion turned a deficit of eight points into a lead by a margin of nine points as a consequence, on a 5.07 to 3.04 scoreline. St Brigids rallied, scoring a goal from a 20m free.

The Saffrons applied great pressure on the Cullion defence in the match action that thereafter remained. Cullion though did defend superbly in the closing stages of play, the Maroons winning this high scoring contest by a margin of eight points.
