Clare and Cork played out a thrilling Munster U20 hurling championship opener last night at Sixmilebridge which saw the sides finishing all square on 1-16 apiece.

Clare had held the upper hand by the end of the first-half, with Sean Boyce’s ninth minute goal and the points of Fred Hegarty, Diarmuid Stritch and Ronan Kilroy helping them towards a 1-11 to 1-8 half-time lead.

The visitors had bagged their goal through John Wigginton Barrett five minutes before the interval and eventually levelled the tie through Barry Walsh’s free in the 52nd minute.

The game’s closing quarter would see three players red carded, with Clare’s free-taker Hegarty sent off before Ben Walsh and Barry O’Flynn were dismissed for Cork in the closing stages.

The Banner lads held the one-point advantage late on through Jack O’Neill’s point before Killeagh sharpshooter Barry Walsh struck what proved to be the equaliser for the Leesiders.
