A Tyrone GAA club says it's ‘lost for words’ after a former star player and self-made millionaire offered to help pay for a new 600-seater stand and dressing rooms.
Kevin McCabe, who was Tyrone’s first All-Star in 1980 and played in their All-Ireland SFC final defeat to Kerry six years later, has pledged to pay for his beloved Clonoe’s ambitious project outside of what’s raised from a development draw.
In a Facebook post, the club outlined how McCabe had approached All-Ireland winning forward Connor McAliskey about getting involved with the project.
“Get it built lads. Run a big club development draw and I will help with the rest. Simple as that, go knocking doors for the next 12 months and by mid-2026 the stand will be finished. Let’s do it,” McCabe told O’Rahilly’s development committee.
“This is my club, the best club in Ireland and I want us to have the best facilities in Ireland.”
The post added: “The lad from Clonoe, our very own Kevin the Prince McCabe, has just changed the future of Clonoe forever.”
