Colm O'Rourke is set to be the next Meath senior football manager.

O'Rourke, one of the county's greatest servants over a 20-year inter-county senior career from 1975 to 1995 during which time he won two All-Ireland titles, five Leinster medals, three National Leagues and three All-Stars, has been recommended by the management committee and will go before the county board for ratification, along with fellow former stars Stephen Bray and Barry Callaghan as selectors.

The Sunday Game pundit and current Simonstown boss had ruled himself out of the running to replace Andy McEntee in the role, having been linked to the position at different times in the past.

"I'm involved in club management, I'm very happy in club management and I have been for quite a while," O'Rourke said when speaking on RTÉ following McEntee's depature after six years at the helm last month.

"I did actually go for the Meath job on three occasions in the past and even somebody as stupid as I am would get the hint that when you're told 'No' on three occasions, I think that should put it to bed."

The 64-year-old successfully managed Ireland in the International Rules Series in 1998 and 1999 and has enjoyed plenty of success with St Patrick's Classical School, Navan, where he is Principal, aswell as his adopted club Simonstown, whom he led to a first Meath SFC title in 2016 and retained the title in 2017.

The Management Committee of Meath GAA have recommended that Colm O’Rourke be put before the County Committee for ratification as Meath Senior Football manager.
