More Donegal woe as McBrearty set to miss league

A dejected Paddy McBrearty leaves the field of play

There is more bad news for Donegal today with reports that Paddy McBrearty will miss the start of the Allianz League and possibly the entire season.

According to Kieran Cunningham in the Irish Daily Star, the star forward is currently trying to set up a business in the US and that there is no date set for his return. If McBrearty decides to stay Stateside long-term, it would be a massive blow to manager Declan Bonner who is without the injured Oisin Gallen until the end of March, while he is also planning without Odhran MacNiallais who has opted out of inter-county football for a second year running.

News of McBrearty's absence comes after Donegal were forced to withdraw from Sunday's McKenna Cup semi-final against Monaghan due to not having enough players to field a team. The Ulster champions currently have 13 players involved in the Sigerson Cup, while others are unavailable due to injury and illness.
