Clare trio Ian Galvin, Jamie Shanahan and Conor McGrath have all been ruled out of the 2019 SHC.

Co-manager Gerry O’Connor confirmed that the players will all miss the entire championship season due to injury, with Shanahan and McGrath both having undergone surgery.

On the upside, 2013 All-Ireland final hero Shane O’Donnell is back in the squad, having missed the league due to his studies at Harvard.

“They’re all gone. Jamie had an operation on his back two weeks ago so he is definitely out,” O’Connor confirmed at the launch of the Munster SHC in Dungarvan yesterday. “Conor McGrath had an operation on his shoulder after Christmas and he’s definitely [out]. Ian Galvin had an injury on his arm a couple of weeks ago so he’s out.

“I wouldn’t say we’ll see them this year, definitely not. They are all gone so that’s a significant loss but is has given a chance to the likes of Diarmuid Ryan and Shane Golden. We probably wouldn’t have got as much game time into Diarmuid Ryan, Aidan McCarthy and Shane Golden if those guys were around. That’s the nature of team sport. One guy gets injured and another get the chance to show what he can do.”
