Great news as Sean Cox to leave hospital to attend benefit match

April 07, 2019

Former St Peter's Dunboyne GAA chairman Sean Cox.

Sean Cox will leave hospital for the first time since suffering a serious brain injury almost a year ago to attend a charity soccer match to raise money for his recovery at the Aviva Stadium next Friday, April 12.

The former St Peter's, Dunboyne GAA chairman and avid Liverpool FC supporter was the victim of the brutal attack outside Anfield before Liverpool's Champions League semi-final against AS Roma last April. Sean spent five weeks in a specialist neurological unit in Liverpool before being transferred by air ambulance to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

He is currently in the care of the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire.

Sean's friend Stephen Felle revealed to Newstalk Radio this morning that the father-of-three will be attending the charity match between the Liverpool and Ireland Legends.

“We’re delighted to say that Seán is going to be there in person. It’s going to be Seán Cox’s first move outside a medical environment in almost 12 months, so it’s very special for the family, and it’s very emotional for [his wife] Martina,” Stephen said.
