The start of the Wicklow SHC was marred by unsavoury scenes both on-and-off pitch at the end of last Friday evening’s clash between Glenealy and St Patrick’s in Aughrim.

The game ended with the sides level on 2-11 apiece before Glenealy had a player sent off for dissent and trouble flared both on the field and on the terrace. Footage of spectators fighting has been widely viewed and shared on social media.

An off-field brawl also erupted in Echelon Park at the end of last year’s SFC quarter-final between Rathnew and Carnew Emmets. Arising from the incident, five Rathnew players were handed bans by Wicklow CCC ranging from three to five years, while both clubs were slapped with large fines.
