Residents of a housing estate in Letterkenny have hit out at the parking congestion caused by supporters attending last Sunday's Allianz Football League game between Donegal and Mayo in O'Donnell Park.

People living in the Ballymacool area were left angry and frustrated after vehicles blocked footpaths, driveways and access points throughout the estate, and also damaged green areas. The residents are now calling for discussions with the relevant parties to avoid it happening again.

"Gardaí were out early this morning and had cones up along the footpaths in the estate as well as up the Kirkstown Rd," the Ballymacool Residents Association stated in a Facebook post.

"A barrier was put across the estate entrance with Gardaí only supposed to allow in Residents of the estate. Local media also had asked people not to park in Ballymacool Estate. We had hoped all these measures would solve the problems. Quite obviously this has failed again. What do we have to do to prevent this from happening again?

"Discussions need to take place between all parties involved with residents taking priority. This can not and will not be tolerated again on any level.

"Ballymacool Estate is not a car park."
