Shamrock Gaels are into the Sligo senior football championship final for the first time since 1994 thanks to a 2-15 to 1-14 win over St Mary’s last night.

Shane King’s side dominated large portions of the first-half in Keash where Shane Deignan hammered in the game’s first goal as the Gaels went on to hold a 1-12 to 0-5 lead at half-time.

Daniel King extended his side’s lead with a point early in the resumption but the next 15 minutes would see St Mary’s outscoring their counterparts by 0-4 to 0-1 before finding the net.

That goal would be immediately cancelled out by James Foley’s strike however and, from there, the Gaels went on to record a four-point win which sees them into the Owen B. Hunt Cup decider in Enniscrone on October 12th.

They await the winners of today’s other semi-final between three-in-a-row chasing Coolera/Strandill and Drumcliffe/Rosses Point at Kent Park (throw-in 4pm).
