Meath breezed past Carlow into the last eight of the Leinster senior football championship thanks to a 1-30 to 0-19 victory at a sunny Pairc Tailteann this afternoon.

Ruairi Kinsella struck the game’s only goal in the 48th minute as the Royals went on to win by 14 points in the end, setting-up a provincial quarter-final showdown against Offaly in Navan in seven days’ time.  

Robbie Brennan’s men dominated large portions of the opening half, running up a 0-9 to 0-2 lead by the quarter hour mark and the points of Matthew Costello, Kinsella, Eoghan Frayne and Jack Flynn would help them go on to hold a 0-22 to 0-9 advantage at the half.

Carlow made a marked improvement with the wind at their backs for the second-half, however it wouldn’t be enough to make up the required ground on the hosts.

Two-pointers from Kevin Murphy and Conor Doyle during the third quarter brought the Barrowsiders’ tally up to a dozen before Kinsella fired in his goal to well and truly kill off the game as a contest.

Conor Duke, Diarmuid Moriarty, Frayne and Jason Scully landed Meath’s last four scores of the afternoon as they now look forward to an intriguing clash against the Division 3 champions next weekend.
