Ryan O’Donoghue will play his football in Chicago for the remainder of the summer.

Midwest Radio is reporting that O’Donoghue, who was Mayo’s top scorer in this year’s Championship, has joined John McBrides on a J1 transfer sanction. The Belmullet sharpshooter’s transfer was approved before last Monday’s deadline.

The McBrides club has strong Mayo connections. Two years ago, Jack Carney, Enda Hession, Eoghan McLaughlin, current AFL star Oisín Mullin, Matthew Ruane and Paul Towey all lined out for the club, which is the oldest in The Windy City.

With the start of the Mayo club championships still over six weeks away, Belmullet are hopeful that O’Donoghue will return to play some part in their campaign.
