Peter Canavan and Jim McGuinness both reckoned referee Paddy Neilan was right not to send off Sean O'Shea after his boot connected with Evan Comerford's face as the Kerry forward tried to force home the rebound of his saved penalty in yesterday's All-Ireland SFC semi-final.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Tyrone great Canavan commented: "During play I thought it was reckless, dangerous.
"When I watched the slow motion, Sean O'Shea clearly got the ball first. There was a lot of pressure on the referee to make a big call, and send him off.
"You've got to acknowledge the role of (linesmen) Martin McNally and Conor Lane, they went in and had a chat, took their time about it, and came up with the right decision. He played the ball, and it was a great, brave save by Comerford."
Former Donegal All-Ireland winning manager Jim McGuinness opined: "He came up with the right decision, but it was marginal. He's gone in strong there. I know the ball was out. We initially thought Comerford had his left hand on the ball. Sean O'Shea was entitled to go for the ball, but it was aggressive."
