With the final round of The Northern Trust postponed until Monday due to a tropical storm warning, Shane Lowry will be able to sit down to watch the All-Ireland hurling final.

In what was his best ever round on the PGA Tour, the Offaly golfer recovered from a poor start in New Jersey to shoot a stunning 62, leaving him just three shots behind joint-leaders John Rahm and Cameron Smith.

Lowry, who was in attendance at Croke Park last Sunday as Offaly's U20 footballers claimed All-Ireland glory before flying out to the US for the first leg of the FedEx Cup play-offs, is look forward to spending the day off watching Cork and Limerick.

"We have a day off, which works out well for me because the All-Ireland hurling final is on and we will be able to watch that on TV," the Clara man told Sky Sports.

"Monday is going to be a bit windy and rainy, so who knows what will happen."

He added: "I will be fine. I have some good friends in the city, so I am sure we will watch the game and go and have lunch. If you are going to have a day off, there are worse cities to be stuck in than New York. I don't want anyone feeling sorry for me or us. We have it good."
