An epic Nowlan Park encounter between Galway and Kilkenny was the highlight of the hurling weekend while supporters of Limerick, Cork and Wexford also had cause for celebration. Here is our hurling team of the week...
1. Nickie Quaid (Limerick)
Quaid and his Limerick team-mates bounced back from the disappointment of their defeat to Cork in emphatic fashion.
2. Sean Finn (Limerick)
Came to his side’s rescue early on when thwarting goal attempts by Aaron Shanagher and John Conlon.
3. Liam Ryan (Wexford)
The Model County finished with 15-points to spare over Carlow and it’s Kilkenny next up for Ryan & Co.
4. Sean O’Donoghue (Cork)
O’Donoghue was the standout defender on view at Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Saturday evening.
5. Paudie Foley (Wexford)
Foley found the target with two points at Innovate Wexford Park.
6. Declan Hannon (Limerick)
The Limerick captain provided plenty of protection for his full-back line against Clare.
7. Joseph Cooney (Galway)
Cooney put his shoulder to the wheel to help the Tribesmen fall over the line against the Cats with their nose in front.
8. Bill Cooper (Cork)
With considerable assistance from Darragh Fitzgibbon, Cooper provided plenty of ammunition for his forwards to shoot down the Deise.
9. Cathal Mannion (Galway)
Mannion’s long range point taking (he finished with eight points overall) was a highlight of Galway’s morale-boosting victory in Nowlan Park.
10. TJ Reid (Kilkenny)
At the opposite end of the field, Reid was doing what he does best but his team just came up short on this occasion.
11. Killian Doyle (Westmeath)
Doyle accumulated an eye-catching 0-17 in the Lake County’s Joe McDonagh Cup success over Kerry.
12. Alan Cadogan (Cork)
Underlined his worth to the Rebel County cause with a return of 1-2 and was also involved in the build-up to Patrick Horgan’s goal.
13. Aaron Gillane (Limerick)
Clare couldn’t handle Gillane who pick-pocketed the Banner County to the tune of 1-11.
14. Patrick Horgan (Cork)
The Cork ace was honoured with the Player of the Month for May accolade last week and he’s already very much in the frame for the June equivalent.
15. Conor Whelan (Galway)
Along with fellow corner-forward Brian Concannon, Whelan helped himself to 1-2 against Kilkenny.
