Eoin Cody says Kilkenny are hellbent on making amends for last month's hammering by Galway in the Allianz Hurling League.
The Cats' 18-point defeat was their heaviest since 1954 and is still fresh in players' and supporters' minds ahead of their return trip to Salthill for Saturday's Leinster SHC opener.
“Galway were just the better team and they outfought us, outperformed us, outscored us — and we just didn’t answer back. We didn’t stand up. We let ourselves down," Cody said at the Leinster SHC launch in Kinnitty Castle Hotel last week.
“Those things will happen, with the level of opposition that’s there in hurling now. If you’re off by that much, you’re just going to be punished. And Galway well and truly punished us.”
The Ballyhale Shamrocks attacker added: “We’re lucky it probably came at the right time. It wasn’t nice but as a team, we came together. Obviously there was a lot of outside noise, we blocked it out, had a few honest conversations amongst ourselves … and really put the shoulder to the wheel.”
