Padraig O’Hora wants to see a ban on alcohol marketing and advertising in sport.

The Ballina Stephenites and Mayo defender made the call on RTÉ1’s ‘Upfront With Katie Hannon’ programme on Monday night. O’Hora, who works with Youth Work Ireland and also served as a community liaison officer for Mayo Mental Health, gave up alcohol a number of years ago after seeing the impact it has on many Irish families.

"Big alcohol brands are utilising sports to market and advertise. Just because they put a zero zero sign beside Guinness or Heineken or any of them, they're still marketing and advertising off sports," the father-of-three said.

"I just understand the damage it does. I think anybody that grows up in Ireland has seen the impacts, be it in their own house, or in their own family, or somebody down the road.

"So I suppose it was a decision we made after a couple of years to make sure it didn't impact our house the way it has other people".
